I have lived in shadowood for almost a year...and my expierence has been nothing short of hell on earth. I have lived in both the older apartments and what they now call "renovated". Both aprtments fell apart and were pure ----! The "renovated" apartment (which I currently live in), had leaks starting back in november....I asked and asked to get my leaks fixed...one leak turned to four and still no help... finally my kitchen ceiling fell through last saturday! The manager sent up a crew of men who she called "roofers", who conveniently let me know themselves that they were no roofers....but they'd "try" to fix it. Needless to say I now cant live in my apartment because they cut two huge holes in my ceiling leaving me vulnerable to the asbestos and insulation....they told me it'll be a couple weeks to get this fixed...and to top it off I just found out that I am pregnant!!!..... Meanwhile the fire department told me I cant live there while the ceiling is open.... and management wont pay for me to stay in a hotel...this is a sign all in its own that the tenants at shadowood dont mean anything to management and its owners..the sad part is that I am only one of 20-30 people that this happened to that same weekend. Also, they are taking the outide gate down because "its a false sense of security", straight from Cindy the Asset managers mouth! Among a thousand other things, this place is a hell hole!!!! I'd advise you to run in the other direction.

You should look up california civil codes 1941.1 and 1942. 1941 says what conditions are concidered unlivable, section 1942 says you are aloud to leave a residence if it is deemed below standards. Also do a search for the fair housing website, they are pretty helpful. I like at shadowood as well and hate it here. If we can find enough people to get together and take legal action maybe we can all leave!!

Apartment 3407, #1, 3 for information relating to any proposed legal action. You can immediately report the violations to fire dept, sheriff's dept, county code violations divisions. The "Management" were property managers Bernard Allison, based in Arizona, but I gather they had serious problems getting the OWNERS, M squared (M2, isn't that cute?), to pay for anything, and along with the previous property mangers, were unable to make repairs as no money was released to do so, I was also told that the property managers (all of them) had no control over who was hired. The crews hired to paint and do the shingling were "traded" an apartment to live in as partial salary, and were imported from Georgia and another southern state. None of the crew spoke English, so a year ago in January, we had people blocking our exit from the apartments while they painted, peering in our patio doors while painting (all over our furniture and plants) with no notice. The current owners are in violation of several problems. The current staff in the office are friendly, enthusiastic and helpful, but are not, obviously, going to be able to persuade the owners to do anymore than the property managerment company could. See apartment number - this person can tell you about problems over the last year and who to contact for help.

In case you do not know, there is yet another manager and the building was sold again. They are legally supposed to notify us, but never did. The new manager said point blank that she will not let anyone out of a lease due to on going (FOR YEARS) maintenance issues. Well, news flash, if you have attempted to have them resolve issues and they have not you CAN break your lease. I guess she thinks they are above the law. My building was reroofed and the idiots CAUSED leaks...I guess that is what happens when your cheap contractor gets day laborers at Home Depot to do the work of professionals. They cause major damage to the buildings they roofed. I would love to see a class action suit. OH YEAH...they told me that they are changing the name of the complex to Kensington Guess they know Shadowhood has a bad (well deserved) reputation.
1/8 I guess the new response below explains all the out of state trucks that were here and specifically the one from GA that hit my car and I never saw him again. This is absolutely absurd....we need to do something How dare they treat us like this...I have lived here 3 years and ALWAYS pay my rent on time or early, yet they feel they are not obligated to live up to their end of the rental agreement.

In response to everything you guys have said I have WAY more information than you guys have stated here and know what you hafe posted... I am in the midst of writing a letter to all the tenants and will be posting them in 2 to 3 days!!! I am currently out of my lease.... Just happened yesterday!!!! :)! I am the person you should and need to contact!!! I have more than enough information and tactics to get out of your lease than you all know!!! And I did call the fire department!!! It was one of the many things I did to break them down and let me out!!! Also pur apartments MAY have asbestos... I am having an inspector come out and test my house in a few days!!!
