I moved into these apartments a few weeks ago, and had originally been a little worried due to some of the reviews of the place. Though I can understand the frustration of some of the people who have lived here a long time, and now have to deal with upgrades and price hikes, I have to say that overall the place is great. Gretchen in the office, though not the warmest person, has responded to every concern and has been really professional. And personally, I would take professional over friendly any day. We are paying around $1000 for a big two bedroom, and a front patio as well as a really large back patio - The upgrades look really nice too. Granted, there are some quirks, and a few places where the work was a touch sloppy, but nothing I can really complain about. The place stays really cool with minimum AC too, so our energy bills are lower than most places I have lived. I can hear my neighbor the tiniest bit on one side, but it really is background noise more than anything. And trust me, I am picky about noise, since I am a college student who can be distracted by ANYTHING... I mean, something fuzzy rolls across the floor, and goodbye economics text ;)
