Laurel Oaks is trying to revitalize its look and most of all, its REPUTATION. For one thing, it accepts Section-A (or Section-8), you can probably imagine what kind of people live there.

I was new to the Sacramento area, and never knew much about apartment lives here. I was first attracted to its nice ground keeping, the house interior looked clean and the cabinets were recently remodeled. We ended up signing a one year lease...BIG mistake!!

My neighbors are always playing loud music. I live upstairs and I can actually FEEL the bass of the boom-box coming from the downstairs apartment. Moreover, my next door neighbor's door always has someone knocking, going in and out throughout the day and NIGHT (4-5am in the morning). We suspect that they are dealing drugs...I mean...what else'' I am a full time student and require a lot of quiet time to study. My neighbors do not work, what they do all day is blast their boom-box, yell at each other (Sometimes I could literally hear what they were arguing about), and they like to hang out at the outside of their houses. Sometimes I don?t even want to step outside of my apartment.

I?ve seen the Crime Scene Investigating Units on the premise of the property twice. How safe do you feel when you return home and see officers blocking the parking lots with ?Do Not Enter? signs around''

Regarding the security issue, the security is not on duty nightly. The druggies know when the security is off duty and sell their inventory on particular nights of the week. I was locked outside of my apartment one night, so I was forced to sleep in my car. At around 4am, I heard a loud noise, so I sat up and saw that one of my neighbor drove his car into my other neighbor?s car, making a dent on both cars. He left the parking lot without even taking a look at his own car. I didn?t confront him because I know he was dealing drugs at that hour, and it?s not safe for me to do such stupid thing.

I have to add that the staffs there are friendly and easy going.

I also agree that as a renter, why do we have to pay for the trash and sewer fee'

Although the appliances are new, they are older models which cost a lot of energy to run them. At one point, I thought my neighbors were tapping into my line.

I borrowed some money from my parents and purchased a house in the North Natomas area. I ended up leaving the Laurel Oaks (at that time was still Smoke Tree) 2 months prior to the end of my lease. I rather pay the months of empty rent than being in such bad environment. It is a different feeling to go home now and I feel safer and happier everyday.
