on the decline

I've lived here for just over 3 years. The grounds are beautifully kept, the rent is inexpensive, and the apartments are good sized. However, the complex, the apartments themselves, and the community is in decline. Now that a management company has taken over, the rental turnover rate is high. My neighbors change so regularly that I've given up trying to get to know them. Maintenance is not a priority here. Laundry rooms are dirty and machines are in constant disrepair. On one occasion, all six of the washers and dryers in my closest laundry room were broken. Parking and pedestrian gates are broken monthly, causing many cars to be broken into and stolen (including mine). We've had issues with hornets and termites. Black mold and water damage are pushing the paint off the walls and ceiling. Management and maintenance personnel are slow to respond if they ever respond at all. The ambiance is becoming more and more noisy, with unruly unattended children at the pool, loud music, and people partying, yelling and slamming doors at all hours. The apartments across 43rd are all ghetto; police is there constantly, there was a guy running around the neighborhood with a rifle a few months ago, and police helicopters are getting more and more common. This used to be a nice, quiet community, but now it's a dump. My family will be moving out this year for sure.

While you obviously have a family to look after, I do not. I can say that everything you say is true; however, the real prize to these apartments is the rent and location. Greenhaven is still a beautiful neighborhood with stability and convenient access to the freeway and parks. These apartments are less than 1 minute from the freeway, yet far enough to not be drowned out with excess noise from the freeway. The parks are always manicured as well, and the grounds of the apartments are nicely kept. One cannot expect to live in paradise without a price to pay.
In closing, if you expect to live in luxury, you will be dissapointed; however, if you are looking for a moderately safe, well established neighborhood with a fair and livable monthly rent--come on down.
