It looks nice...but don't walk around alone at night

As a single woman, I will not leave my apartment after dark and hate coming home late at night because it's just plain scary. Just found out there was another stabbing in the complex this past weekend (June) and they left the bloody mess there for three days before cleaning it up. There is only one entrance which is nice but it doesn't stop people from jumping over the concrete wall facing the overpass or driving through the entrance when security is busy or not at the gate.
The inside of the apartments are fine and the outside looks alright (not fabulous) but the management is spending a lot of money making cosmetic changes and not addressing the serious security issues. Lots of things have been promised and NOT ONE has been done. Security guards at the gate are good but have to travel in pairs because one of them got jumped walking around the complex. Fortunately, after the murder, they got a good security company though one of them was asleep in the security booth the other morning.
Parking enforcement is a joke if you don't live on the main road. Oh, and a few of the residents are dumpster-divers and they're allowed to do it because there's nothing in their lease that says they can't. With ID theft at an all-time high, it's total BS to have someone hunting through the dumpsters "looking for recycling". I do think that management could handle this by putting in bins for recycling.
Management staff is typical for a large complex - understaffed and lease-focused. You can get a quick call back if you are signing a lease or renewing but if something is broken, be prepared to call again (and again). However, some of the girls in the front are great, very responsive, nice and apologetic if you've been wronged.
The laundry rooms do suck. Half the time, machines are broken but you don't know until you've spent your money. The washers are small so the "cheap" wash of 75 cents isn't really a savings because you have to do double the loads.
I'm moving out and don't plan on coming back. Same goes for two of my co-workers; one will not leave her apartment without her pepper spray. This is definitely the scariest place I've lived but it's one of the nicer looking complexes in the area. In my opinion, go across the overpass and look there if you have to live in this area.

Anonymous is right...completely true. I've lived here since it was Discovery Park. It is the largest complex (800 units) in Sacramento and security always been as issue.
