beautiful complex with a few problems
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/3/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
Parking: They have enough unassigned spaces in our area of the complex, and those are wide enough for "parking-impaired" people like me, but the assigned spaces are terribly narrow. My neighbor can't avoid putting marks on my passenger-side door, even though we both drive normal-size sedans.
Safety: It seems all apartment complexes, even gated ones, have problems with car break-ins and car vandalism, including the occasional tire-slashing, window breaking, key-scratched paint, and car burglaries. Fortunately, I as far as I know, there have only been one or two nights that such things happened. Regarding vandalism on the apartment buildings themselves, I witnessed a young woman put a brick through the window of a vacant apartment one night after she had been yelling (outdoors) as loudly as she could for about two hours. (We had called security and 911 while she was yelling and when she broke the window; unfortunately we had a very bad telephone connection and they couldn't understand what we were saying.) It took three days for management to repair the window, which is pretty slow in my opinion. In the ten months we've been here, I've only seen a security car twice. I think they need better coverage.
Repairs: The repair guys are slow to get around to fixing things (a week or two), and they were very inexperienced and clearly reluctant to actually do the repairs, as if we were asking them to do too much work (!). We've only needed three repairs, and with each item, they told us they couldn't find any problem. One problem at the beginning of our tenancy was that our dryer kept overheating and wouldn't stop running by itself, and it took THREE WEEKS and repeated complaints for them to fix it, even though it was an obvious fire hazard. It turned out that the previous tenant had left a bobby pin that got stuck in exactly the wrong place in the dryer's electrical system. If I were the insurance company for River Pointe, I'd be pretty upset!
The apartment itself: The kitchen shelves are amazingly small and so is the refrigerator, but the carpet is nice and so are the window blinds.
The office staff: They're very nice and very helpful, but they seem to be overburdened. Management's policy of charging $30/mo per pet for "pet rent" is ludicrous.
We like it here because it's very quiet, our neighbors are friendly and civilized, it's right next to a paved walking/bicycling trail, and loud music is very rare in our part of the complex.
