We should have known that when the staff had problems understanding our credit check that we were in for trouble. But we really liked the complex and the "upgraded" unit was a big draw. From move in, it became apparent that Shore Park is based on the appearance of a quality, luxury living experience but never really delivers.

The "upgrade" was of incredibly poor workmanship. Paint was on the new carpet in several areas. While the cabinet doors had been replaced to reflect the new color scheme, they had simply repainted the existing cabinets, often in on spray resulting in runs, overspray, and many unpainted areas. The carpet used was of the lowest grade available. We found the exact carpet at home depot and it was literally the cheapest carpet they had available. While the appliances were new, they were also of a fairly low grade.

The staff went from competent when we moved in to downright dumb by the time we left. When we asked for the prorated amount of rent on our last month, the calculations were done incorrectly twice overcharging us by several hundred dollars. When spring came around, several wild cats entered the complex with their kittens. We and several other residents attempted to care for and capture the animals. When the management learned of this, they instructed us to stop indicating that "if you don't feed them they will go away". As we have always had a soft spot for animals in our hearts, we insisted that if the management would not let us intervene that they would need to contact animal control and have the situation handled. We were assured that they would be taking care of it. When we left 4 months later, all of the cats were still in the complex and the management had done nothing. When it came time for us to move out, they were equally clueless. They first tried to schedule a "pre-moveout inspection". Of course, they scheduled it on a Tuesday at 10 in the morning several weeks before our move. When we asked them to reschedule as we both had work and would not have packed by then, we were told that it was not necessary to have the inspection. The day before our move-out, we asked about doing a final walkthrough and were told that the pre move-out inspection was all that we would normally been given and that it was our fault for not doing it. Reluctantly, they agreed to have the maintenance staff perform a walkthrough with us the day after our move out. They indicated that they had not seen an apartment so clean in a long time. They also indicated that they did not actually handle any repair charges, that there were two separate companies that did and that we would not be able to attend those inspections. When I asked at the office about it, I was told that the independent contractors would inspect the apartment and submit a bid. At that time the cost of those repairs would be removed from our deposit and the remainder, if any, would be sent to us with a list of the charges. Sure enough, not only did they keep our deposit, but sent us a bill for additional cleaning. We were tempted to fight it, but honestly our time is worth more than to continue trying to work with the management at Shore Park.

We are now renting a private home from a competent landlord and the difference is night and day. Never again will we return to Shore Park. The pocket area is very nice and has a lot to offer, but Shore Park is not the place to experience it.
