Yo!

Bad area, bad quality apartment-TERRIBLE parking!

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2002

My husband and I lived there for 6 months. If we had not had been transferred for work, we would have moved anyway. The carpets were in HORRIBLE condition when we moved in. There was paint all over the baseboards and edges of the carpets and holes in the walls were poorly patched over. We made a DETAILED list, room by room of all the damages/dirty spots in the apartment the first week we moved in and gave it to the manager with our walk through paperwork. Thank goodness too, we got our full deposit back! (I think we actually left the place looking better than when we moved in!)
PARKING WAS TERRIBLE! Each apartment only has one alloted parking space. I worked until 10:00pm, so by the time I would get home, the lot would be full. Numerous times I had to circle the parking lot again and again looking for a spot. Many of those times, my husband or I had to park illegally just to be able to get out of the car and go home! There was no way I was going to park my car on the street outside the complex. Too bad an area and we lived in the center of the complex.
The maintenance staff was very slow at fixing things. As with many other "gated" communities, the gates were almost always broken. They have a lawn maintenance crew come once a week, but still somehow when a large tree limb with lots of little branches fell down on one of the walkways, almost 2 weeks went by before it was removed.
There were lots of little problems with this place, along with the bad neighborhood we did not feel safe walking around in, even in the daytime. The floorplan (2 bed, 1 bath, 860 sq. ft) was okay but the fireplace in the living room made it very hard to arrange furniture. We did like the full size washer and dryer and the full-wall closet in our bedroom, but there was nothing spectacular about this place.
They also do not have any type of grace period for late rent payments. One month we forgot to pay rent on the 1st. The very next day I had management on my doorstep giving me a "pay within 24 hours or be evicted" notice. Since we had no history of late payments they did not charge us a late fee or anything. We had no problems with management personally, they were always really nice when we went to pay rent or pick up packages. Even when we were moving I went to the office to get touch-up paint for the walls and they brought it to me later and did not charge me for it.
Even still, the bad outweighs the good here.
At the end of our lease, we had promised each other that we would pay "too much" for our next apartment just to get a better neighborhood/ community. (We moved to the Bay Area and we pay WAY too much now, but love our current apartment and community!)
