My wife and I drove to the community and were taken aback by the way things looked. It is visually a very nice apartment complex and we were thrilled to move in here. But within only a couple days, we got a wakeup call.
Our third day in the apartment, I woke up and went into the kitchen and found ants absolutely everywhere. They were inside our cupboards, inside our cereal boxes, in the sink, everywhere. My wife is an extreme neat freak and never leaves any food out or goes to bed without cleaning the kitchen from top to bottom, but still the ants came. I told the office and they sent an exterminator over, but he only put this pasty material all over our kitchen that has done little or nothing to keep them from coming back. We have to keep all of our food in sealed containers to make sure the ants don't return.
The parking situation is ridiculous and stupid. The managers are very unclear about how parking works there before you move in. I was told that I would be given two parking permits: one for me, and one for my wife. But when I moved in, alas, they only gave me one and told me that they never give anyone two. Granted, the person that showed me the apartment was not a full-time leasing agent, but still, I was told one thing and given another.
I get off work at 5:00 PM, and I'd say nine times out of ten there is no parking outside my apartment when I get home. If I ever go out at night, it's a nightmare. I usually have to park in the roundabout outside our apartment gates, exposed for anyone to go and break into my car or steal it. There are cars parked outside my apartment in the covered parking that haven't been moved in months and that have no parking permit that management does nothing about.
The plants outside my apartment smell like dog ----. Literally; they smell like a giant pile of dog ----. It is embarrassing for us to bring friends over because without fail, everyone mentions the smell as they walk into our apartment. I don't know if it is the smell of the plants themselves or if it is poop from all of the pigeons around, but it's almost unbearable, especially when it rains.
Everything else that people have mentioned on this board is true (the "security" gates always being wide open or not opening properly, the ladies in the office being basically worthless, non-residents using the pool and other amenities, salesmen constantly showing up at my door, etc.), but the things I have detailed are the worst things I've experienced at Tuscaro.
Overall, it's just been a bad experience since the day we moved there. If we had to do it over again, we would have paid the extra hundred bucks or so per month and moved into another apartment complex nearby.
By the way, I have nothing to gain by posting this. I am an honest man and don't hold a grudge against Tuscaro or the management. It's just been a horrible experience there, and I just want to warn others before they move in of how things really are.
