Sex Offenders Suddenly Move Into Sac Motels
Two motels in East Sacramento are now home to more than a dozen sex offenders, all of whom moved in over the past several weeks, and now neighbors are growing concerned.
Casa Linda and Vince's Motel now house 11 registered sex offenders, according to the Megan's Law Website. A mother who lives nearby and wishes to remain unidentified says she became worried when the e-mail alerts started pouring in.
"All of the sudden, boom, they started coming together and it looks like red flags," she said.
A Vince's Motel employee says that they often don't know the guest is a registered sex offender until a parole officer stops by or calls. They added that sex offenders are often referred to their motels once they are let out of prison.
We tried talking to some of the offenders, but found that not all the addresses match up. Nakia Duckett was surprised to learn that his room is listed as the address for Gordon Woods, a 65-year-old man convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14.
"If there are people like that living here, they should do something about it," Nakia said. "The cops have been here frequently."
Authorities say the offenders are allowed to live at the motels as long as it complies with Jessica's Law, meaning that they are at least 2,000 feet away from schools and parks. The law also says no more than six offenders can live in one house, but there are no restrictions on motels.
"I don't like the idea of walking by there with my children, knowing that they could be looking out at us and following us home," the concerned mother said.
