My current living experience here...

First of all, I agree with all the other reviews previously written. I will just add more of my opinion.

1) Patio Rules. Yes, they are very strict about what you are allowed to put on your patio. We also had surfboards on our patio, and they gave us notices. I had a birdfeeder, they gave us a notice. I have nothing on my patio except chairs and a table now. I see the leasing agents walk around maybe twice a month giving out notices, upon notices to the people who don't comply.

2) Living with children. If you have young children (under school age, and cry because they are young), be prepared for people to yell at you. My neighbors pound on my walls and yell at us because my 1-year old cries. If you have kids, then you know kids cry when they can't express what they want. I never let my kid cry for more than 3-4 minutes , as I do everything in my power to respect my neighbors. The walls are very thin, and I'm sure we are loud because of my kids, but what can I do. Really. My kid only cries when he is teething or if he is really sick. Be prepared for nasty neighbors who do not understand this because they do not have kids themselves.

3) Mold. Mold grows here pretty quickly...on your food, on your walls, in your bathroom. I don't really know what to do about it.

4) Rent increase. My rent has increased $100 - $200 for every year I've lived here. I don't have the energy to move, so we are staying for as long as we need. I've complained to management about raising our rent so high that it wasn't fair that people who moved in right next door to us would pay up to $500 less than what we've been paying! How is that fair' The leasing agent said that it depends on the market value of each individual apartment, and that there was nothing he could do about it, and that the values of the apartments change month to month.

5. Parking. If you have two cars, then you may want to get access to the garage also because if you come home from work at the normal hour, you will not find parking near your apartment. Granted, I've never had to park on the street like tenants from the other complexes in this area, but it would still be nice to park close to where you live.

6. Maintenance. I have no real complaints about the maintenance team because they are very nice people. They do come within 24 hours, like they guarantee on their website. Sometimes they don't fix the problem right away, but they do try. I think they are limited to what they can order if something breaks because they need approval from management, but they've pretty much done everything to the best of their ability to fix things I needed fixed. For the amount of rent I'm paying, I never hesitate to put in a maintenance request. They're good overall.

7. Air circulation. Unless you live in an apartment that is west-facing, you will have a HOT apartment in the summer and a very COLD apartment in the winter. If you face east, you get none of the breeze. Many people on my side of the building always have our doors and windows wide open just to get some ventilation.

8. Spiders and silverfish. This place has many. I don't know why. Maybe due to San Diego weather.

9. Noise. I haven't really had any problems with noise in my specific building, except for my neighbors who pound on my wall when my 1-yr old cries.

10. Passive Use Park. There's a wonderful park literally in our backyard. There's also a nice walking/jogging trail, along with exercise stations.

11. Water. I didn't know this until I talked to a neighbor who didn't have a washer/dryer in his apartment (because some 1-br do not have w/d) that we are all paying the same price for water. I have a washer/dryer in my apartment and I do a load of laundry everyday, which obviously uses a lot of water. The entire complex splits the bill (roughly $60 ) per unit whether you use a lot of water or not. So it sucks if you live by yourself, pay $1-$2 per load/per dry, and here I am doing laundry everyday in my apartment.

That's all I can think of. I hope this helps in your apartment search. I don't really have major complaints, and I don't really go to the office much except for picking up my packages. Now, I haven't moved out yet, so I don't know what ridiculous charges they will put on my bill, but I will update this post when I move out.
