just wanted to add

I just wanted to add to this (at the bottom)...
My husband and I moved here thinking that we would be living in a nice apartment, but we can't wait to get out. Since we've lived here there has been one problem after another and when we've talked to resident services (r.s.) they are less than helpful.
If you do move here make sure you will be able to park your car early in the afternoon, unless you want to hike to your apartment and/or park in the dark because they won't replace the parking lot bulbs until there are at least three out on your side of the complex; have plenty of drano, in case your tub backs up; have a flashlight to bring down to the pool, in case they decide to wait a couple months to replace the light in the pool regardless of numerous complaints of a period of months(and they still acted like they had never heard the light was out when we went to complain about it) and spa-also, depending on which side you live, the spa gets so hot you cannot sit in it for more than 5 seconds at a time, which gets called in to r.s. all the time, but nothing is ever done because all they do is read the thermometer and say it's find, but they do not realize the thermometer may be broken; have your own gym membership, in case someone cuts all the cables to the on-site workout room; know which a/c unit is yours so that when your apartment smells like animal feces you know where to go find the poop because r.s. isn't going to do anything about it to help you; make sure you have a hose that reaches the main walkway on your level in case some critter does it's business in front of your apartment because, once again, r.s. doesn't do anything to help with that either-- they claim to, but won't; and last, but not least, make sure you have 9v batteries and a rather tall stepping stool in case it's 430am and your smoke detector starts chirping at you every 2 min because the battery is low and you are too short to reach the darn thing by standing on a chair while your husband is gone for the weekend.

I know some of the annoyances may depend on which side you live, like the stuff dealing with animals and such, BUT, I have seen on the "no-pet side" plenty of animals and many which break the lease agreements on size and breed.

Anyway, from what I've experienced, I would definitely NOT recommend moving here if you had the option. I have lived in much nicer and paid much less.

i forgot to add, guest parking is a joke. Parking is minimal for guests (which clears up more parking for residents which is nice), and is mostly taken up by residents with more cars than can be registered with the main office which sucks when you want to have company over.

my husband and I were talking about the turnover rate for people moving in and out of the apartments here. In the last 6 months on our side of our apt complex there have been 3 different families in the apt. above us, 2 have been below us-1 has moved out so that will make 3 by the time someone moves in, 2 in the one next to that and the 2nd fam. just moved out, 2 down the way from us, 3 in the apt. next to us, 2 in the apt above and across, 2 in the one below that, and below that one has had 2 people in it, and that's just on our side of the complex. I realize that with some of the apartments it would be normal to see people moving out so it would be normal to see 2 different families within 6 months as leases run out, but if the apartments are so wonderful, why is everyone leaving' I'm only accounting for the apartmens that are on our half of the building we live in, but every week there is at least one moving van on the north side of the entire complex, which I think says a lot about what people think about thier apartments!

AMEN! I thought living at Archstone would be great - and Resident Services ARE NOT helpful at all!!!! And, when you get your notice to renew your lease, they jack the rent up on you....FUnny thing, I had a friend call to get a rate on the same apartment size I have, and they quoted here $35 less a month than what they told me my new lease would be. CRAZY!!! 100% service guaranteed - HA! only for the first month, if that.

Sounds like this woman is helpless. Alot of what she depends on r.s. to do could easily be done by any healthy person. I think she's just lazy. Please don't post WHINER reviews. They are never of any real use.

i have no idea what these people are talking about we have lived here for almost a year and the only complaint we have is that the rent is a little pricy and our neighbors upstairs party at 3 am every other night but all we have to do is close the windows and its nice and quiet. i love it here, maintence is more than helpful, when our garbage disposal was leaking they replaced it with a new one no problem, its clean and i feel safe here.

with 736 apartments, and next to a trolley stop that brings you straight to sdsu.. dont you think people will be moving in and out every week?

and as for the chirping, seriously.. batteries die. we've dealt with it.

Now I was only there 3 months so take that into consideration. Parking IS a problem if you get home after 7:00 or so. I was usually able to find a spot somewhere within 200ft or so. The pool WAS often a problem and management didn't care about it. For WELL over a week it was like spring break a the pool RIGHT behind the office. There's NO WAY that they couldn't be aware of the problem. Even when I reported it to them they're ONLY response was that I should call security. It went on EVERY night for about 2 weeks. I never had a real problem with the gate so I have no comment there. The gym was adequate if you just want to do cardio or light exercise. Getting your security back is definitely a problem. When you leave INSIST on a walk through and definitely take a LOT of pictures. When they tell you that they're going to charge you for paint or carpets remind them of what the law says (they can't charge you for normal wear and tear). Don't for a second think that their friendliness will carry over after you leave, take pictures. The other issue was that our apartment was EXTREMELY hot. It was typically 15 degrees hotter in our apartment than it was outside. We had to use the AC almost every day and I'm someone who rarely uses the AC.
