Overall I'm okay with living at this complex. I moved from the Archstone Presidio View (also in San Diego) because the office people were a nightmare. So maybe after coming from there, this place doesn't seem as bad.
However, the office staff here aren't the best. Most seem to avoid wanting to work, but there are two girls in the office who are wonderful and do everything to try and help.
And even though I pay the extra $75 for a garage...I don't always get to come and go freely because there is always someone parked in the NO PARKING fire lane blocking me in. So if you're going to get a garage try to avoid the garages along the fire lane...I'm on the waitlist for a better garage right now.
Pricing isn't too bad for me because I lived in Hawaii most of my life and I'm used to the absurdness of rental prices. And compared to other complexes, $1500 for a 808 sq ft apartment w/ a garage is a steal.
I do agree with the comments made about the gates though. I live on the leasing office side (the "no pets" side...even though every has dogs) and the gates are a joke. They're open from 9am to 6pm so people can get to the leasing office. So every day I come home to tons of flyers hanging on my door. And I've had several experiences where my door handle has been shaken, as if someone was trying to open the door. So it's a good idea to always keep both deadbolts locked when you're home. The gates are broken rather often or make a horrible squeaking noise (when they're about to die). Good luck with the pedestrian gates as well, my fianc likes to walk across the street to get ice cream and almost every time he comes back, he has to try 3 or 4 pedestrian gates before he gets one that opens.
The walls seem to be pretty thick...but the ceilings are another story. I live on the 1st floor and can hear every fight the people above have and could probably tell you where in their apartment they are because their footsteps sound like a herd of elephants (they're not "big" people either).
End result...my lease is up in a few months and I'm looking into apartments in downtown but if anything I wouldn't mind having to stay here.

Take LOTS of pictures and MAKE sure you're there for the inspection! For the most part I enjoyed my stay there but leaving was a nightmare. I only had a 3 month lease because I relocated from another state. I'm a neat freak, I didn't hang any pictures, I take my shoes off when I come in, I don't smoke, I had barely any furniture... Archstone initially tried to keep ALL of my security and give me a bill for over $300. THey told me they had to do a full repaint and a full clean. I had pictures and I threatened to go to court. It took me weeks to get them to agree to give me HALF of my security back. They said that I had neglected to pull the GAS oven from the wall and clean behind it. The crazy thing is that at the inspection the guy commented on how clean my place was. My other complaint was that it was SO Hot in my apartment. Basically the complex is ok but they're CROOKS.
