When I moved in a year and a half ago, the rent was a pleasant $1175 for a large two bedroom apartment. I was very pleased to be taking over the lease. However, after I found giant, 50 cent piece-sized spiders and asked them to spray, they suddenly discovered my cat. I had fully informed them that I had a cat, but it wasn't until after I was living there for two months that they actually looked at my application. They then decided that I had to pay PET RENT, at $30 a month. I would have never moved in here had I known about that. The manager at the time, Kevin, denied that he knew I had a cat and insisted that he told me about the rent, even though it was not on the lease that I signed. By the way, the spider problem was never resolved. Speaking of insects, let me tell you about the bee problem. Every month there was a bee infestation in the building that I have to walk by to get into my apartment. It was scary to try and walk through it. I would call, they would spray and the bees would come back. One day I saw the bees swarming on the ground. It looked like they were an inch thick. I called the managers office, but they had left early for the day (like usual), so I called the emergency maitenence. They basically told me that I had to accept that I lived in an area where there are bees and that when I see a body (since I pointed out that people die from bee stings), to call them back then. Instead we called their corporate office and had it taken care of through them. I was woken up many times at 3am by the enormous raccoons that live in the tree right outside my bedroom window, watching me as I sleep and trying to scape through the roof to get to food. That wasn't as bad as the CONSTANT road noise coming from Nobel. Each day I hear the screeching of brakes and wait for the inevitable crunch. One evening, about a month ago, a car ran the light, hit another car and then slammed into the side of my building. It took the management over a month to BEGIN to fix the giant hole in the side of the apartment. The tenents were moved and they didn't even bother covering the hole up so moisture and vandals could have gotten in. I felt unsafe. To top everything off, they raised the rent to $1725 a month (plus an additional $30 pet rent) without giving my roommate and I the required 60 day notice. We have basically been running around daily looking for an affordable place to live in a very short amount of time. Did Archstone do anything to justify this steep hike'' No, my apartment has shoddy carpeting, and no washer or drier. It's very basic. Bottom line: It wasn't that great, the apartments aren't so nice and the rent will go up without notice. Stay in one of the other area apartments.
