Not too happy

Years at this apartment: 2007-01-01 - 2008-01-01
First off I am a firs time renter so i'm really looking everything with a blind eye. The thing is, I was pressed for time to look for an apartment due to a 9-5 schedule mon. to fri, and I only have time to look at apartments online and check em out on weekends.
I only knew a little bit with apartments so when I saw Bernardo Crest, I wanted to check it out based on the floor plan, and the size of the place compared to the other apartments that only offer less than 900 sq ft.
So with that said, I emailed the provided email address and they abruptly replied back willing to let me do a walk through on one of their available units. At this point I liked the idea of living in Bernardo Ctr. Dr. area cuz its quiet and no one to really bother you and it seemed like it will be an okay area to live temporarily.
I decided to rent and sign a lease, I agreed to do 12 months lease, they gave me the key and I was really happy to have my 'own' place.
When I moved in, I did not pay much attention to detail. Noticed that the toilets are old, electric stove was old and the sliding doors for the closets were not aligned. It seems like they were in a hurry to finish 'cleaning up' the apartment so the management can rent it out again. The paint job was poorly done, you can see lint and bugs being painted over. At this point I can say it could be my fault for not knowing much about apartment hunting. To me I can only take what you can offer and just go with that. You start with a 100% only you will be graded later with a lower score if you don't follow through. So with that said, i think Bernardo Crest failed miserably to my expectations. It is not even worth the rent that I am paying for this place. Another problem is when they already have your business, they will not reply to your phone calls (try calling them and it seems like they screen their calls). No one picks up the management phone, no one replies to emails, no one gets back if you leave them voice messages. Even if you try to stop by on businesss hours, no one's even at the office. So what gives? I am not sure but I cannot wait to get the 'f' up outta here. I sure did learn my lesson the HARD way. The place is built in the 80's without any upgrades. I checked out my friends apartment and he was paying less with better upgrades. It just seems tough to deal with the management. Oh and I also had my car broken into and they were just nonchalant about it. Do me a favor and don't rent at this place. I am thankful that they took me in but they should at least try to cater to my calls and i'm not even asking for much. Lesson learned, but not too happy.
