When I was looking for an apartment, I fell in love with the layout of the one bedroom apartments, the fact that it wasn't made out of stucco, how beautiful the grounds were and the view we had from our 3rd story apartment. But I have had nothing but problems with this place from the very beginning. I've lived in places where the parking is "tight" but this place is ridiculous! The day we moved in I pulled my COMPACT car into our spot and immediately realized that I would never be able to use it. I couldn't open any of my doors and had to crawl out my window. It was an awkward spot that wasn't fit for anything more than motorcycle parking. We asked them numerous times to switch our parking spot but were always told that a manager was not in the office. I've lived here for a year and still have yet to meet a manager. Speaking of parking, if you get home past 5 pm on any night you can expect to park on the street outside the complex. When I got up to the apartment I noticed something was dripping into our bath tub. I asked maintenance what this was and they told me it was run off from the A/C and that it was perfectly fine. I didn't like it dripping on my head while I showered so I installed a tube to run the water down to the drain and it didn't take long for that tube to turn orange. When I showed this to maintenance they basically just shrugged their shoulders. Besides a leak in the livingroom after a rain storm and more issues with parking, the next 11 months went by pretty uneventfully. Then one night our truck was broken into and a $200 window was broken to steal a $150 GPS system. Besides the issue I have with the safety of the community this wouldn't matter in a complaint about the apartment complex except a few months before this happened BRE Properities signed a contract with Summit Security to monitor the complex after hours. On the flyer given to the residents it listed "monitor parking areas" as one of the duties of the security company. I called Summit Security to complain that they let our truck sit open for 3 nights and did nothing about it (we were out of town). They quickly explained to me that that was not part of their contract and I realized I had been lied to again by these people. That was the final straw that broke the camels back. We will be moving out in a few weeks and I fully expect to get royally screwed on fines upon move-out. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE OR ANY OF THE BRE PROPERTIES! You will be sorry! i understand your frustration and i agree that parking is ridiculous. but as a former leasing consultant for a different property in a different part of town, security does "just" drive around... i guess looking for suspicious people - nothing more. they doesn't guarantee your belongings. other than that, they can't really see a car open or not... it is quite dark there.
i lived there for a year. i never did have anyone break into my acura cl. it's actually very safe there... at least when i lived there and i've lived all over SD at 5 different BRE properties and this is a top. i left my door wide open while home and pregnant to get air in it (stuffy unit), kept doors unlocked during the day, windows of cars wide open even overnight... this was in 05 so I don;t know today.
when I moved out, they charged me the least of all properties. they will charge you though regardless.
i always wondered what that pipe was too.... our never leaked =/
and true, manager was never there... or it was always changing.
all laces have issues, i hope the best for others. mine was good.
