I've been an apartment renter for about 4 years now and this was, by far, the worst place I have ever been. After we locked in a day to move in, they neglected to provide information about turning on the utilities. Then, when we did move in, the management reprimanded us for not having the utilities in our name. We explained that they didn't even mention this before but that was not acceptable to them. How am I supposed to know with out someone telling me'

Our dishwasher was broken from day one, after several calls to maintenance, it was never fixed. They came and messed around with it, but it never got fixed. There was cardboard holding it together in front, and that was after it was "fixed". The final maintenance trip yielded some duct tape to hold it together. I eventually had to fix it myself.

The location is central, as in it's near ever freeway intersection in downtown, so there's noise all the time. The reviewer who said they could walk to Petco in 15 minutes must be running, which I would highly recommend in this end of town if traveling by foot. The Goodwill around the corner really attracts some riffraff. The underpasses of the 5 freeway and 94 freeway also provided nice shelter for crowds of homeless people, who I almost envied because they didn't have to deal with the management. I parked on the street and routinely passed homeless people walking to my car. "City View" is not a misnomer either, you can see 3 freeways, a homeless shelter, and several bums at any given time of day.

The management was where it really got bad. We would have packages sitting in the rental office that we would have to go down and ask for, because they wouldn't notify us that they had arrived with a note, like they were supposed to. When we did call on them for things like this or maintenance issues, the acted like it was a real chore. When we were moving in, unloading stuff from the truck we drove across the country for the last four days, the manager asked us to move it, because the glare was "in her eyes". Sorry princess.

The things beyond their control that sucked like the shortage of space and storage were tough to deal with. As were the shortage of laundry machines that were constantly being used all hours of the day when they were open. I have to say that I have an issue with the policy of locking the laundry room doors at night. My wet clothes sat in there because they locked the door 15 minutes before the scheduled time.

The place I live in now is paradise in comparison. Responsive management being the chief improvement. I would sooner live with the homeless people down 17th street than in the City View again.

Hi - where do you live now? I'm moving to the area and it seems like almost all of the reviews are negative (for everywhere). I would really appreciate to know the names of some good complexes. Thanks!

My experience at City View was far different than yours. In the 5 years I lived there I loved it (moved out summer of 06). The management is far more professional than at most places and always helpful. Hate to break it to you but city's have riffraff, noise and and unsavory people...Obviously City View is not right on the water or in the Gaslamp but considering how reasonable to rents are you shouldn't expect that it would be. I took nightly walks with my wife and we never felt unsafe. I would higly recommend City View for its location and value.
