I only had a 6 month lease but had to give a $400 deposit, that part I was OK with. But 3 weeks after I moved out, I got a letter for garden community management with a check for $12.81. My apartment was in the same condition when I moved out as when I moved in. I was out of town most of the 6 months, so I hardly used it. I even had the carpets professionally cleaned when I moved out. But I was charged $200 for carpet cleaning, $100 for toilet chipping (that was also BS, there were no chips), and the remainder was for nail holes in the wall (I never hung anything on the wall). This is crazy, I should have received my full amount back and got only $12. I talked with management, and they said they could not do anything, I asked them some more questions, they asked me to step outside of their office, and then they shut the door. How immature are these people, they are a complete joke.

This also happened to me. The management replaced the carpet and kicked me the bill. I took them to small claims court and got my money back. It is relatively inexpensive to take them to court and most likely you will win. Search the internet for California security deposit laws, then go to the San Diego Superior Court website and it should list everything you need to do. Don't let them keep your deposit!

That' funny because I got everything back except $50.00 - guess this doesn't happen to everyone.

Sue them. It obviously isn't the first time. I'll be sure to take photos when I move out.

I am an ex-employee, I will agree that the managers are horrible. They are extremely lazy and do not care about the tenants, that is why I quit, I am happy I do not live here. My replacement is the biggest ------- I have seen, enjoy!
