Re: What's Wrong With You People'

One important thing that I haven't yet seen mentioned is that this property is actually divided into two different complexes, separated by Colina Dorada Dr. I think this accounts for the discrepancies in the reviews. The west side of the property (which has the management office) is the side they show to potential renters and is kept in much better condition. Unfortunately, I live on the east side and I can tell you it's like crossing the proverbial train tracks. I can tell by the last reviewer's review (titled "What's Wrong With You People") that he must live on the nicer side.

My wife and I have lived here for a year now and there has been a construction project going on to erect 15 or so storage units and it still isn't complete. During this time the unassigned parking lot has been reduced by more than half. The other side has a gym (two if you count the one in the office) and we have a racquetball court. Well, we did until they tore it down to erect two new units. They have a security guard, and he comes to visit our side once a week or so. They have a clean pool, we don't. And in response to the last review's comment of what to do if he can't get a hold of anyone from the office by phone (".. I walk my happy ass over there. After all... it's not exactly a long walk."). I disagree. For those of us at the far end of the east complex it IS a long walk. In fact, it's much better likened to a short drive.

Maintenance is a very hot issue for me because we've been dealt the misfortune of having a unit that requires a lot of it. I'm not talking about minor issues like water not working (although I've now recorded a total of 6 times were we've been without water for more than 7 hours a time), I'm talking the big stuff. A dripping water leak from the unit above us took 2 months 3 weeks and 2 days before they stopped the dripping (we also found out the water wasn't coming from a clean pipe but rather from the upper unit's bathtub drain). It took another 46 days after that for them to patch up the 4 foot-square gaping hole they made in our bathroom to fix the leak. Now, more than 7 months after our first maintenence request to get the leak fixed we are still waiting for them to paint over the 4 foot-square plaster patch. On two separate occasions they had an outside plumbing company come in to clear our toilet of tree roots that had caused it to stop flushing. Another minor annoyance regarding maintenence is that they don't clean up their mess to the standards they entered your unit in, which is compounded by the fact that they're over here so often.

I'm choosing not to point out things like the noise level or the doggie surprises because I think that comes with rental property no matter how much you spend.

Our lease is up and we're now looking for a new place to live. If you're thinking of moving here and the unit you're looking at is on the west side, you may stand a fair chance of getting a decent return on your rent check. If the unit is on the east side, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

P.S. While neither our apartment nor our cars have ever been vandalized, I've rated safety a 2 because a good portion of the walkway lights are broken and our side's mailboxes have been broken into multiple times (so much so that the USPS refused to deliver to us for more than 30 days).
