Don't even rely on the manager doing anything. The only person that could help you is your self. I'd get out of there as soon as I could. That $2000 lease break will be worth it rather than stayin in that s*%t hole for a year. Save your selves and get out of there now! Oh, and by the way. When your lease is up, don't even expect to get you deposit back and expect to pay more because they will come up with all kinds of things wrong with the apartment just to rip you. Keep your receipts because they will lose records of it and will send you late notices because they don't keep track of who pays. Even after a year of moving out of there, they will stilll hunt you by sending you notices saying that you haven't payed your rent. Just get out of ther for the love of God!
