we were shown a model instead of the unit we were actually getting which turned out to be a nightmare. there was rice in the carpet. there were dead bugs painted over on the walls. there were a lot of bugs and spiders. the faucets in the kitchen/bathroom as well as the shower leaked all over the counter. there was no hot water in the shower. maintenance didn't fix the faucets, and the exterminator didn't do a good job either. bugs everywhere. also, the electrical wiring is beyond awful. Everytime I tried to use my hairdryer, iron, or microwave, the electricity would shut off in the entire apartment, and we had to call maintenance. After awhile, they finally left the breaker box unlocked so that we could fix it ourselves. The entire apartment's wiring feeds off only one breaker. Ridiculous. After many complaints, the senior manager told us the apartments were built for military housing during World War II, in the 1940's, and the reason for so many problems is that the buildings are old. They don't have intention of fixing the problems. Instead they make excuses.

my car has been vandalized twice and keyed, my motorcycle got keyed, and my girlfriend's car was broken into. there is usually street parking, but your car is not protected by the cheap security. the garages are only separated by thin chain-link wire.

there are creepy people who don't even live here walking around at all hours of the day and night. who knows what they're doing here. it's not uncommon to see people around or actually IN the dumpsters rummaging through the garbage.
Sleep is a luxury you can forget about. Between the parties, the loud fights at the neighbors, the screaming kids...you'll never get any rest. And I cant forget the loud sirens of police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks that rush past at least 25 times a day (literally) give or take a few. Forget about watching tv or having a quiet evening, because the ignorant morons with their bumping "music" at the intersection will make sure you know they're there.

The lack of safety is a big problem at hillside gardens. If you have children, don't even think about living here.

There is also the bus stop at 58th and University that brings an unpleasant crowd of strangers to my doorsteps starting at 5am and lasting through 1am. We have only 4 hours that we can sleep without hearing the screeching brakes of the bus, and the hoodlems waiting for it.
Don't live here. It's not worth your money. You work hard for your money and deserve to have a nice place to come home to and relax at the end of your day. You won't find that here. There are much better places in San Diego for around the same price. Keep looking. And Good luck.

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 07/16/2008
I remember meeting with these residents and it was the same day they were moving in not after many complaints as stated. The exterminater treated the apartment for a spider and they also treated the outside hedges. Some of our buildings were built in the 50's and if you have too many items plugged in it may trip your breakers. The maintenance was their and took care of the hot water problem, and I have not heard from you about not having any hot water. The location of your apartment is next to the bus stop and I would be happy to offer you to look at other locations. Traffic noise tolerance is differ to each person and we would be happy to show you different location that are not at the intersection. Please come by the office. Thanks you Hillside Gardens Management
