University owned - got in as the last of the undergrad in 2001. Left in 2004. This was by far my best living experience in my 6 years of living in San Diego. Parking was good, covered, well lit. Gates worked fine. Lived on the Lebon side which was a little noisy. Third floor apartment was excellent - cathedral ceiling, new appliances, washer and dryer inside, fireplace. Maintenance was OUTSTANDING. Turnaround time for problem was less than 3 days in general. Pools, spas, tennis courts great. Staff friendly, professional. Only real complaint was the NARROW stairs going to the top floor. Moving in/out is a real pain. If you're a UCSD undergrad and thinking of grad school, put your name on the year-wait list and then grab one for grad school. Price was a good $150 lower than the surrounding area for rent too.
