Live ANYWHERE but here

Sure, these buildings were built in the 50's and they are cheap to rent, but it is terrible to live here, seriously. If your neighbors are having plumbing (toilet) problems, you can be sure you are next, as the "problem" always runs from one unit to the next (they are all inter-connected). Staff here will "fix" it fast, while the dirty toilet water is running all over your white carpet, even when you didn't even flush the toilet. Guess what; you're neighbors did! Yes, there are termites that fall from the slated ceiling beams onto your bed. The heating system in these units are terrible, the upstairs gets too HOT, while downstairs is too COLD, it is a very inefficient system and a total waste of money on heating bills. The first winter we spent here, we called out maintenance to fix our heater three times before it was actually fixed and working. Each time they told us they had fixed it, we woke up freezing and miserable. It was a LONG week of being cold before this was resolved. Insulation is terrible upstairs, you can hold your hand up close to the wall and feel the cold coming through. If you like it cold, then this is the place for you! Oh yeah, during the day when you are shown the apartments by staff, you can see all the "available" parking spots along the street; beware that if you are gainfully employed between the hours of 9am-5pm, you will surely spend hours each week either searching for a small parking spot to squeeze into, or walking half a mile to your apartment from your parking spot. Forget about anytime on the weekends, as none of your neighbors will move their car, period. Several of my neighbors have boats that they also park along the street, in addition to their 3 cars. As long as they move the boat every 3 days, it is legal. Of course, people honk and shout at you as you drive slowly and try to paralell park on the street here. Cars speed down this street at ALL HOURS of the night, honking and yelling like it was a college dormitory. If someone smokes on their front porch, you can be sure the smoke will fill your room, as the porch is right below your window. Dont forget about cell phone talkers. Office staff is heinous, I avoid them as much as possible. Some people are allowed to have a decoration on their front door, but if you leave a decoration for halloween or christmas on there past a holiday, you will receive a "nasty gram" from management. They also "peek" through your back patio fence in search of "violations". I love dogs, I have one, but several neighbors do not pick up dog feces and it is really gross. Things break often, like the oven door will just "come off" while you are cooking. Laundry room machines are always OUT OF ORDER, and do not get repaired for months, if ever. Sometimes they just remove the appliance and never put a new one in. Bathroom mold is a battle you will never win, no matter how diligently you clean. Even staff cannot fix it, they just paint over the problem before a new tennant moves in. They do spend a lot of time and money re-painting and making it look nicer here, they really should use those dollars to fix the real problems. Then again, why would they when they are trying to sell these units as converted condos. Talk to a few residents before you move here. The price is right, for sure, but remember that you get what you pay for. Yes, it is noisy here; planes, roommates, parties, traffic. Maintenance is always busy. So many things go wrong around here. I love it here! I've lived here 3 years and the ONE time I came across a dryer that was out of order it was fixed quickly after I told the office staff about. As for the hot upstairs cold downstairs- close your vents uspstairs, partially or all the way- and the temps all even out. I thought that was a given with central heating. My furnance has been checked each year in the fall and I've never had a problem. My neighbors are quiet and you get used to the planes, with the location of our airport, you're going to have that noise most places near the beach unless you want to pay the huge rents in La Jolla. The staff has always been nice and helpful to me!

This place sucks! It becomes more and more of a ghetto with every passing week. The office staff are a bunch of vapid ------- who don't give a ---- if you live or die. Our unit was crawling with all sorts of scary insects - especially spiders and termites. It was so disgusting that I could hardly sleep for worry about what might bite me in the night. Our tub leaked all over our livingroom and then the so-called management had the nerve to deduct the ruined carpet from our security deposit. Our neighbor's toilet frequently overflowed and the worst time was when our apartment ended up ankle deep in sewage. It ruined all of our furniture and the management's fancy lawyers made sure we never saw any money for it. One of our cars was totalled because we had to park it by the side of the road since there was no adequate parking in the lots and some crazy drunk ran into it. Another one of our cars was spray painted several times by one of the neighborhood's roving gangs of thugs. This place is not safe!!! Always cretins creeping around at times of day and night packing weapons and fighting and holding people up. The management of course works hard to cover all of this up. They also set vehicles in the carports on fire and stole from parked cars. What a nightmare. The maintenance staff steals and watches tv and eats your food during the day while you are at work. i came home early one day and caught them at it and they tried to deny it - but I know what i saw. The washers and dryers are always broken like you would expect in the ghetto. The mgmt raised the rent whenever they pleased - what a ripoff. The manager Kim is a ---- and a half and is a major incomp. When you call to talk to her the other dumb sluts that work in the office lie and say she isnt there when you KNOW she is. They must think we are as dumb as they are. Don't rent here - I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Buyer beware of this overpriced GHETTO TERMITE HOTEL!!
