When you move in, you will be told of the many things they have planned for this complex such as balconies/patios, a jacuzzi, laundry hookups, apartment remodels. Instead, what you get is a pool that is usually in good condition (as long as the residents aren't throwing the furniture in it), a lobby where residents always throw their junk mail and trash on the ground because management didn't want to empty the trash can that was there daily, walls that are paper thin, a community club house that people seem to use most of the time without scheduling in advance while blasting loud noise all night, a dumpster area that is either always occupied by the homeless - or as it has been for the last 7 days - without a single trash pickup! The trash is not only overflowing from the dumpsters into the dumpster bay, but now it is all over the outside of the dumpster bay area encroaching on a common walkway. And that planned construction I mentioned earlier' Those balconies and patios started construction in 2003... and they never continued after 2003! They came back in 2006 and changed out some of the rotting wood that was black with mold and soot. They spent about 4 days working on it and changed apx. 6 pieces of wood. Occasionally they will change the black roofing tarp material they have used to cover the stucco on the exterior walls. This usually happens after you complain about water in your unit. Did I forget to mention that a very tall pine tree recently fell onto one of the buildings a couple months ago'
Management talks up a great game here, but doesn't always follow through. Rent was raised last year citing the need to pay for fixes to the complex. However, all they did was install a bike rack. 1 bike rack! Meanwhile, the elevator has been broken for 2 months! Can someone say ADA''
Finally, there is the water bill. Most apartments in San Diego charge you for water. That is fine. But it is usually a water bill either from the city or from a third party showing you your meter readings and usage. Loma Village uses a third party (which in my own personal opinion looks like it's from their accountant back where the property owner lives) to bill you a charge that changes every month. It never lists meters. It only has your name, address, bill amount, and service charge. They ask you how many people live in your unit when you move in which is supposed to determine how much you pay for water. But I've spoken with residents that have more people than I do in their unit and they pay less. And am I paying for the water to fill the pool' Am I paying for the water for the landscaping where the local kids are always breaking sprinkler heads' Do I pay more when there are vacant units'
You will never get a straight answer from these people. The only advantage here is the month to month lease and the cheap cost.
