I don't know why, but some people will complain about anything! I'm definitely not calling this place perfect, but I'll miss it when I move out of the area in the summer. It's been a great place to live overall. The pros are huge, important things, and the many cons are mostly smaller things. So, for me, the pros certainly outweighed the cons.

Pros
-Beautiful grounds, very well kept.
-Excellent location, close to shopping, freeway, and beach, and beautiful weather.
-Maintenance responds fairly quickly to requests, although they aren't the most skilled.
-2 nice pools and lots of laundry rooms
-Parking isn't too bad for tenants
-Apt. doesn't get too cold or hot ever
-Cute, sweet feral cats hang out near the slough
-Always doing improvements, etc on grounds.

Cons
-Newly installed gate is a pain in the ass, and everyone just sneaks in anyway.
-At times, parking can be hard to find, but usually only if you come home quite late.
-Guest parking can be quite hard to find.
-Pretty noisy from the planes going right overhead, especially if you have your door/window open. Also, noisy wild green parrots live here in the warm months and screech at dusk and dawn.
-Noisy neighbors, but that's a crap shoot. We've lived here 3 years, and have had great neighbors and awful ones. (I'm listening to my neighbor's radio through the wall right now)

Other
-I've heard the rumors about safety issues, and there was a huge drug bust here recently, but I have never (knock on wood)had anything stolen or had any other safety concerns. Just keep your house locked... duh! it's San Diego!
-I haven't had much interaction with the office staff, but they seemed to get my paperwork done all right. Maybe not too friendly, but who cares'

So, overall, if you're not a big whiner, you have to admit this place has a lot going for it. I would recommend it, and have to a few friends.
