Strange things

This is going to sound crazy but I swear its true.
A little after I moved in here I started hearing soft "knocking" noises coming from my kitchen and bathroom. The knocks/taps happened late at night and were more common on saturday nights. At first I worried that it was rats or mice, but the knocks/taps were rythmic and the oddest thing was when I turn on the light or go to that room, the tapping would stop. But often it would start again as soon as I turn off the light and went back to bed or watch TV, and I don't know how to explain it but it felt like somebody was there. Over time it stopped bothering me. One night I was listening to soft music, older jazz, and the knocking/tapping started and kept perfect time with the beat of the music. I was pretty freaked out about it at that time because I'm not superstitous but it really seemed like somebody else was "there."
Well anyway a while later I noticed a plaque on the corner of the building that said it was the historic site of the Douglas Hotel, which was a popular jazz venue in the 1920-1940's. Google "Douglas Hotel San Diego" and you'll find a lot of references about it. A while later, when I heard the tapping, I called out loud "this isn't the Douglas Hotel anymore!!" to my "guest" and the tapping got louder and faster for about 30 seconds and it felt like "he" was angry or sad. It was very strange. The tapping still happens from time to time but I don't talk to "him" anymore.
Otherwise everythings "normal"...at least inside the building. The neighborhood has a lot of homeless and mentally unstable people. The golden west hotel just up the block is used as a halfway house by the state because mental health institutions are full. So there are a lot of panhandlers, drunks, and crazies around but their mostly harmless. The horton plaza parking garage is very loud especially on Friday and Saturday nights after the bars close but if your a heavy sleeper its not to bad.
Oh and yes the elevators used to get stuck a lot but they rennovated them earlier this year and I've only been stuck once since then and that was only for a few minutes.
