My personal experience.

I moved here about 6 months ago. Unfortunately, I have to move very soon because my wife's job is taking her out of the city and since I own my own business, I am along for the ride. I just wish I could take the Pinnacle with me, since it has been the best complex we have lived in.

Everyone has been very friendly, even though I am breaking my lease. Since there are very few apartments available right now (2 local complexes recently went condo, putting a flood of renters into a small market) they had people on a waiting list waiting for my floorplan so I didn't have to pay the $2000 lease break fee; however, even if I had to, $2000 is one of most reasonable fees you will ever find, as most apartments charge 3 months rent as a lease break fee. (Look at any archstone property lease).

Maintance has been excellent. Just tonight I had a problem with a smoke detector beeping. I changed the battery and it still beeped. I call the 24 hour 800 number on the card management provided and within half an hour the problem was fixed. We had one other problem when we moved in as the lights in the garage didn't light and it was fixed within 24 hours.

The amenities are the best I have seen in any San Diego apartment complex. This is the best apartment gym I have seen, as it actually has free weights and a full resistance set up, as well as several treadmills and stairmaster style machines. Unless you are a gym fanatic, this will more than suffice. It has a lap size pool and a sweet hot tub. They have been clean the entire time I have been here.

The gate was broken for a few days about a month ago, but has been working since and was the only time it was broken during the time I have lived here. However, as someone mentioned, it isn't a security gate, but more there just for traffic control, so to have it broken for a few days a year was hardly a big deal.

Parking has been great. We have 2 cars, keep one in the garage and I never have trouble finding a spot with the second car. I've come home at 10pm on a saturday night and still had no trouble parking within 200 ft of my front door.

Noise' There is none. The walls are definitely NOT thin. I have lived in thin walled complexes (Promenade in Mission Valley) and this is about as quiet as you are ever going to find in an apartment complex. I never hear a peep out of my neighbors and you certainly don't hear people walking above you if they walk like normal humans, as the people above me must walk, since I don't hear them. We were shocked at how quiet it was when we moved in since we came from a place where thumping from above was the rule.

Obviously, as with any complex on earth, your neighbors will determine your experience. I haven't met anyone here who would qualify as a potential problem. The rents are fairly high and the complex secluded, so that helps keep real party elements out.

From what I have been reading on this site (which helped immensely in finding my new apartment) people's biggest problem is unreasonable expectations. People who are very sensitive/light sleepers shouldn't move into an apartment complex. Any complex. It amazes me what some people come up with.

I talked to one guy in the gym who complained to me that the sound of the garage opening and closing annoys him. When I asked why he chose an apartment above a garage, he just mumbled something incomprehensible and walked away. Guess what, if you choose the unit directly above the garage door, you are going to hear it open and close. If that may bother you, choose different unit. Problem solved.

Basically, if you understand what living in a apartment complex is, you will NOT be disappointed with the Pinnacle. It really is the best you will find in San Diego without paying a small fortune, as its high rating suggests.
