Find Somewhere Else

I've been living here for 1 year and I can tell you this place leaves a lot to be desired. Let me say that it is not all bad and being with the pros first
* It's clean and nice looking, in a relatively new area
* They have a nice pool and a decent workout room (that actually has free weights)
* there is a lot of parking (at least in the area I lived). There was never a want for a better parking space
* The maintenance people are pretty friendly and seem to be on top of things
* it's in a quiet area.
Unfortunately though these are outweighed by the cons. I'll be honest : Some of these the management has no control over at all and I'm not sure how they would be able to fix this. But some of this is based off the management
* It's a quiet area - but they don't seem to care about noise. Dogs will bark in the morning / afternoon for all sorts of time. I understand management can't control their tenants dogs, but this has been at least 4-5x a week for the entirety of my time here. I go on more business trips now to try to get a good nights rest.
* The building work seems shoddy. The windows are there and open, but don't particularly provide a good seal. So for the dog barking problem, even with the windows closed it is possible to hear. I wondered why I had such a rude upstairs neighbor always stomping around like he was working out constantly on a treadmill. But it turns out, that I am the same and it has relatively little to do with us. The floors feel very thin and when someone is moving around above you - you will hear it.
* I've had relatively positive experience with the maintenance people when there have been issues at my apartment (the two times I have needed maintenance). But the community is gated - and that gate never seems to work right. Sometimes they just leave it open ... which for me this was a pro since I actually don't particularly like gates. But one night literally no one could get the front gate open. We had to wait for people to exit and had to go in through there. It was pretty terrible sitting helpless in your car waiting for someone to leave. Granted it was only night but if you think being "Gated" is a pro - realize that gate almost is never cosed. They have a pretty nice policy of leaving it open during the day and closing it at night, but b/w almost always down for work and guarding the only entrance/exit out of the complex.. you can assume it'll be open 95% of the time. Relax the area around it is relatively safe.
* People are constantly moving in and out. The weekends where you hear large moving trucks bringing stuff in/out will almost equal the weekends you dont. And that's only cause some people choose to move on the weekdays. IT doesn't seem like a big deal at first, but it does add up and become annoying.
* the community is a mixed bag. Granted it's apartments so we weren't going to be neighborly like in a farm town - But there are certain people here who are downright rude. There is only one road leading up to the community when you get off the 56 hwy and I have been cut off, honked at, and been given rude gestures on about eight different occasions. You would think it's just people being rude.. but no - this is what people are doing to people who they live next to, who they park their cars next to at night. It's very shameless behavior and I admit this is probably more bad experiences with people than the actual complex. But since you'd have to live with them too, i mention it.
* Management is semi-helpful. We came in here right near the start of the housing bubble bursting at had a pretty high rate. We were set to renew last month, near the bottom and certainly when times had changed. For our loyalty the management offered us only a "marginal increase" to rent - about 75 a month. There was no wiggle room on this at all - and despite the fact that they were leasing similar apartments to new tenants for in some cases almost 200 dollars less... that really sucks. Considering we were already at 2100 and all the other factors - it was time to move.
* And last : We found our car insurance premiums went up - We asked why since this area seemed like such a safe low risk place to be (and as far as I know it has been) - Our insurance company reported it's just more expensive to live in this area. We argued this point, but it turns out it was the case at another company too. I don't know if it would be the case for you - but you may want to check since that increase in insurance along with high rent - and the fact that we had to get renters insurance to stay compliant with our lease added up to a lot. Renters insurance is normally not too expensive and a great deal.. but when you live next to a canyon in san diego it can be really tough to find and expensive to get.
IT wasn't the worst place to live, far from it. The cost is high and the semi-cheap quality of the place was the main factors. Aesthetically it is clean and well kept. The noise is really really irritating between people constantly moving out and their pets running amok. I'd find it hard to recommend this place to anyone.
