Portofino is not the ideal place to live in San Diego. Why, you say. Well the management is about as clueless as they come in town. The staff is stand offish when it comes to problem solving, quick to answer you and sometimes even cut you off in the middle of your sentence. Let's not stop there Mario the maintance manager is a two faced low life. He comes in and says yes your apartment looks fine for the pre-move out and then when the "Real" inspection comes, boy he steps up to the plate and says look at this and how about this, O.K. you need this and you need that so that your deposit is not refunded and they charge to paint the smallest things and as far as the carpet is concerned you will get so screwed with that as well. If it's not clean or clean they charge you either way. I heard people with dog's ultimately get the shaft and that Portofino demands new carpet for the next tenants. I would be so pissed if that happend to me. They nick pick at every little thing and nothing falls under the normal wear and tear rule or law. These people take advantage of you on your way out and while you are a resident you can count on their completely strict San Quentin attitude they have on their parking policies. I have beem towed along with my neighbor and his neighbor....wait and his neighbor and they couple across the way. Sorry can't stop there and my best friend got towed my uncle got towed from guest parking, not to mention the way they have these parking spaced assigned is a joke. Why do I mention all of this to you' Not out of pure resentment and anger but rather I would not want people out there to get burned emotionally and or financially. Look at how many people do not like this place. Why do you think that is' Listen if I had a doctor and he was bad and my neighbor had the same doctor and his experience was bad do you think we want other human beings to go thru what we did. Not really. I would only recommend this place to an enemy so he or she can go thru hell. Why is the staff so unfair' The pool is cold. So I called to see if they would please turn it up a little cause the 5 people at the pool with me at the same time, I asked them what they thought and one lady said I would not go in cause it is so cold. Their response was, Sorry we can only turn it up to whatever degrees it is set up by Sarah Vulcher. There are ants on the barbeques and it rarely gets cleaned and when you call they say, "we are short staffed today and the porter's went home...sorry." Sorry my ass. We pay $1900 to $2500 a pop per resident. Does that not account for full benefits. They hire mexicant's that can't do the job and under pay them. I think they should hire good working people, Mexican's not Mexicant's. Dog's poop all over the place with the porter's not cleaning up after lazy resident's. Then you have people from Escala coming down and using the pool and fitness center. Oh yeah the fitness center where the equipment get stolen and everything as new as the property is the equipment is barely cleaned. People sweat and some people leave there body marks on the benches and that never gets wiped down or sanitized in anyway. Great review huh' Hey I'm like a reporter just writing as I see it. And how other's see it too. I will leave you with this, I urge all people to look and look hard. Do not let the newness of the buildings and their well put together models to fool you into paying one of San Diego's highest rent for what they give in return. Oh one last thing I found out by public record how many times Police where called on the property for violence, among other crimes and I was shocked with the number the San Diego PD has been here. I am not counting calls for help like chest pains or heart attacks. Sometimes Police do show up for that if they have the time. If you rent here after reading this, good luck to you and do yourself a favor set up a session or 2 with Dr. Phil. Take care everyone. If you lived here and had a bad experience, please let me know! dennycrane35@yahoo.com

Dear Valued Residents and Perspective Residents,
Portofino was built on a 16.5-acre parcel owned by H.G. Fenton Company and developed on behalf of our company by Archsone Communities. In addition, we partnered with Archstone to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the community.
As of Thursday 03/16/2006, we are very proud to announce that H.G. Fenton Company assumed management of this highly regarded Mission Valley community. Portofino is now the 11th San Diego County multifamily community to join the H.G. Fenton Company portfolio. With its addition, H.G. Fenton Company now owns and manages 2,800 apartment units throughout the county as part of its continuing mission to provide quality places for people to live.
Founded in 1906, H.G. Fenton Company is one of San Diego’s oldest and largest real estate companies. We are committed to being responsive and attentive to your needs and provide you with quality service.

We understand that it will be a transition process for you over the next few months, therefore, would like to hear your comments, which will in turn enable your staff to provide the excellent service you deserve. The most important thing to me and the Portofino staff is your satisfaction with your home. We value your opinion and invite your suggestions to make it an even better home for you and your neighbors!

We will provide you with more details and a personal invitation shortly.
