Better than most in this area

To be honest I have looked at many apartments in this area. La Jolla UTC is expensive and the living conditions are nothing special. In other words mediocrity rules because housing is in short supply. The rents are really a joke, but hey this is California. We are all expected to have room mates to afford the rent'

If you rent in this area then you must be prepared for the college kids. They are everywhere, including expensive apartment complexes. This complex is better than others, but my observations confirm the highest majority are school kids.

Parking is not ideal, the spaces are way too small and there is no reserved location. We can always find a place to park. If you have a big truck forget it.

Crime is a minor issue, cars are broken into and there has been a minor number of break ins lately. This is partly due to poor security, and the demographics of the area. La Jolla is not quite as safe as many think, crime is common. The gates have codes but the spring return device does not work and hence often the doors are open allowing anyone access.

The staff are reasonable, always attend to my issues. The location is noisy if you are on the main street, three lane highway!!!

My suggestion for anyone needing quiet is to stay away from the UTC area. University kids rule, they are young and they need to party. The apartments generally allow a Co-signature of a parent, hence the rich kids have a great place to stay. The complex could make the place more professional and only allow people that have an income to support the rent payment, but effectively this rule would reduce potential customers. Trouble is those of us paying high rent deserve better, or perhaps they should reserve one area for the party people and allow the rest of us some quiet late at night on a weekend?

My conclusion for renting in San Diego is just plain too expensive and very poor quality properties in general. The owners get away with this because no one will step up and supply a better environment. We nearly always sink to the lowest common denominator.

Good luck with the search.

This is the best and the most reasonable review I've ever read about UTC here.
