I was looking for Creek View and stumbled across this one, so I figured I would go ahead and check it out while I was there. Fancy that.
For the record, I'm a prospective tenant, not a current one, and I did a walkthrough of this complex thoroughly, so I'm quite familiar with it.
The first thing I noticed about the complex was that it's two part; there's a lower area and then a higher one. According to the property manager, the one on the hill was built in the 90's while the lower one was built in 2000. Because of when these apartments were built, you should be aware that you'll immediately notice a nicer, more solid interior and exterior than you may be accustomed to from other complexes.
The one thing I didn't really care for was the close proximity of the buildings to each other. Walkways felt cramped, and some people's "view" was actually directly across into the adjacent building's patio. There's room for bicycles, but I'm sure you'd run right into a pedestrian fairly easily.
Parking seemed to be a patch, as you get one assigned covered parking plus an additional uncovered parking spot. Great if you have two cars and all, but because of the layout of the complex, garages are not feasible. If you're looking for garaging, look elsewhere. The parking spaces seemed to be a sufficient size, but for me, I need a garage, not an open spot where someone could ding my car. It also suffers from the "random dust" element in the morning, as well as either too much heat during summer or freezing cold in the winter.
It's easy to tell that the complex was not designed for children. We didn't go very far, but the layout is just not conducive to young children playing. I can tell that it's just inviting skateboarders though, so be aware of that. Also, it's buried behind a rather large residential (single family home and duplex) zone, so it's a strong possibility that there are some children in the area. There's a park up the road as well, and the school is close but not too close. What's good about the location is the fact that you don't have to fight to get in and home, as well as the sheer beauty of the area and the small canyon which fronts the lower property (but is only visible from the apartments in the upper property).
There is a plus to this complex - the prices. The two bedroom floorplan is very reasonably priced for the square footage you get. The interior is very nice and well thought out, and the bathrooms are the most spacious I've seen (and I've seen quite a few). The big negative is the floor plan itself; the square footage seems inaccurate based on how small each room is, especially the living room. What is called a "living room" at Ridgewood is not big at all. Even if you combined the dining room with it, it's still easily half the size of the Villas living room alone. That's just sad, and is a testament to the fact that designers don't understand what makes a true apartment.
That said, there's no popcorn ceiling (nice), the paint quality is better than most (very nice), and the build feels solid. It seems as though it would be a very quiet complex indeed, just small. For those where space isn't a consideration, it would suffice, but for someone like me who spends most of his time in the living room, this just doesn't cut it.
Would I recommend it' Absolutely...if you don't care about garage and you don't care about overall space. It's also removed from the freeway and major throughfares, so expect it to be fairly quiet overall.
