HOA makes this place unbearable

the renovations of these buildings were done as cheaply as possible. mostly paint, carpets, new appliances and fixtures. finish craftsmanship is bad, plumbing has been a nightmare, and my heater hasn't been working properly since i moved in 2 years ago. my family owns this place, so i'm here out of convenience, but even i'm ready to leave this place behind!!
HOA makes up new rules every day, and makes it impossible to make it feel like your home. i tried to ask for a copy of the rules and regulations, and was told i have to pay $50 to get a copy of the rules! everything having to do with HOA costs money, but i haven't seen much of anything done.
parking wasn't redesigned, and it shows. parking spots are the narrowest i've ever seen (i'm an architect, i can tell you these were designed to barely meet code!). i have to do an 8-point turn to get into my spot each day. and guest parking is nearly non-existent.
the only saving grace is the location. this place is convenient to just about anywhere you could want to go. although i really could use a bit more life to this neighborhood.

Hi there. I'm on the board here of the HOA and would definitely like to hear your suggestions s. Who said you have to pay $50 to get a copy of the rules? I'm one of the 3 board members and I never heard of this request and would like to hear from you if this was the case. Thanks

Hello. I am also a board member that has never heard of this. Also, for parking, that has nothing to do with the HOA. The spots were designated by the builder and seller. SInce the spots are deeded and owned by the residents we can not touch them. Please come to the next board meeting so that we can address any other concerns you may have.

Wow. It sounds like you're living in a completely different complex. The HOA board does a great job of ensuring that the property is well maintained and keeps everyone informed. I also don't understand your comment, "i really could use a bit more life to this neighborhood". One of the things we like most about the Venetian is our neighbors.

Why are there two different HOA members posting anonymously?

you're right. my title may have been misleading. the HOA is not solely responsible for making this complex the way it is.
i never said parking was the HOA's fault. i am fully aware that it's something the developer deals with during renovation, and has to get passed through the City during permitting. however, it's something that a developer is able to fix if they want to. i stand by my statement that the developer in this case did not do a good job (and honestly, most of them don't do a good job).
while we're on the topic of parking, the HOA/management does need to ensure that the towing company is aware of rules as well. i was not allowed to have a car towed out of my space several weeks ago because my name and signature is not on the deed. i was told the owners themselves have to be physically present to sign for a towing. that's absurd, of course, but had to go through the management company (after a phone message and several emails) to have it cleared up. the car never did get towed. i had to circle until i could find parking down the street.
i don't know the name of the woman who told me that it costs $50 for a copy of the HOA guidelines. the management company did just recently change, though, so maybe this new company will be more aware of what owners are/are not entitled to. i can only hope. i would like to see what the guidelines say about lighting seeing as how the HOA is apparently extremely selective about what is permitted on patios. funny, last i heard, the patios are part of the unit.
while we're on the subject of HOA: i've been hearing for almost 2 years that we're going to get a heating system in the pool. hell, last time i dipped into the jacuzzi (about a month ago) it was barely warm.
as for the neighbors. i wouldn't know whether i like them or not because they don't seem to make eye contact unless you have a dog or baby with you. since i have neither, a "hello" and a smile don't get me far. i thought it was just me, but have had several houseguests that made the same observation and said this complex was "weird". i have no choice but to agree. the most interaction i've had with my neighbors was when one called the cops on me because i was out for the afternoon and the dog i was watching for the weekend was barking. this led to the cops breaking into my condo and then leaving me a nice note when they realized nothing was wrong. the neighbors (according to their note) told the cops they hadn't seen me for days and were worried the dog was in danger. funny, but i don't even know what they look like, and i leave and enter my home several times every day. yes, very neighborly indeed.
and the comment on wanting "more life". well, that's totally subjective. i was stating my opinion. for some people this area may be full of life. and for a different demographic than mine, it is. but i tried finding a happy hour spot i could walk to, and had very few options outside of chain restaurants in the shopping centers. yes, i can walk to parks. but with neither kids nor dogs, i'm looking for more. at night i hear the passing traffic and ocassional passers-by talking. very little life. this area is not quite like suburbs, but not at all urban either.
but like i said, its saving grace is the convenient location to the freeways and various areas of town.
