After living here for a good while I can honestly say that there are a lot better places out there. This is probably not the worst place on earth, but it needs some serious help. Roachvilla, as I have come to call it, is a villa of roaches. At any time there are about 1000 roaches in my apartment (one is going for my parsimmon as I write this).
Other tenants have complained about mice, rats and other rodents in their units. I have found surenges in the halls, old pizza, dog poop, spilled milk (Yeah, i'm crying over spilled milk, as it has happened many times), among other things. I even found a dead man in the hall. No joke!
The management does nothing to better this place. From leakages from the ceilings into units, to people sneaking inside and hanging out in the halls, it's not a pretty sight.
The management waits until the city comes out and orders them to make changes and then does a half ass job of making those changes. For example, birds that were in the stairwell were blocked off using crates instead of sealing the area. Broken windows were fixed only the day before the city came out. The entry way has bags of chips and other moldy food on top of the door that will probably never be removed. The bathrooms are covered in mildew! Yuck!
I honestly don't know why a person would want to keep a place like this. The landlord has the opportunity and the money to fix the place up, but chooses not to. I find the entire situation to be quite sad, and I look forward to moving from this place very soon. It's truly a shame that such a building has been neglected for so long. On a side note, the place is for sale, so hopefully a new person will buy it who is willing to do something with it. However, I would strongly urge you to not rent from this place as long as it is under the same management. The price may seem low, but if you keep looking, you will find much better deals throughout the city. Please, do not move into 376 Ellis Street!
