Below average place, tenants can be noisy and inconsiderate

Most of the units are studios, so tenants are mostly single people. Good space, some units have hardwood flooring and bearclaw bathtubs. Carpeting leaves plenty to be desired, as it's dirty and smells (especially bad on warm days). There's a small laundry room (2 washers, 2 dryers), occasionally busy on the weekends and an old-fashioned cage elevator in this older, but charming, well-constructed building. Onsite manager is friendly and helpful, usually resolving issues within 72 hours. Tenants generally keep to themselves, but get noisy with their bass-heavy music, toilet flushing (yes, you can hear this), and excessive door slamming. Unfortunately, you can hear this type of noise on other floors. Some tenants keep strange hours, so it's not unusual to find your neighbors banging pots and pans in the kitchen or inviting sex partners over at 3 in the morning. Some tenants routinely leave bags of garbage in the hallway, which is unpleasant to walk past. Tenants often forget to shut both elevator doors, causing it not to run, so the elevator gets stuck on a particular floor. If you don't like to walk up stairs, take that into consideration. If you have a car, parking is not fun. In the day, the entire area is metered or requires a permit. Not impossible to park, but you should strongly consider renting a parking gargage or getting rid of your car altogether. The building is centrally located--near Union Square, Nob Hill, Market St, and the Financial District. On this block, there is one small grocery store (Bush Market), two coffee houses (Cafe Prima Fila, Double Team Coffee), one cafe that serves Mexican/Asian/American food (Jasmin's Cafe), one Japanese food store (Asuka Market), two bars (The Summer Place, Yong San Lounge), two bed breakfast hotels (White Swan, Petite Auberge)and a Japanese restaurant (Sushi Rika) open until 2am. Because of how inconsiderate and oblivious some tenants can be of their neighbors and the filthy carpeting throughout the building, I can't recommend this place.
