It's not that bad, but not the best either

I've lived here for a few months now and have noticed a few not so great things about the place.
It's true that the emergency vehicles go by often, but I'm a light sleeper and have learned to sleep through it. Sometimes people yell outside late at night, but usually it's not that bad. The windows seem fairly thick and keep out a lot of noise. For the most part, it's pretty quiet in my opinion. Though you can hear full conversations of your neighbors when they're on their patios and you're inside. Also, people in the halls can hear what's going on in your apartment.
The blinds break all the time. The windows let air in and condensation develops on the blinds. However, if you're worried about heating and air costs, it's not really a problem bc I've only run my heater once and there's no air conditioning.
I had roaches when I first moved in, but they're not really a problem anymore. I find dead ones once in a while in cabinets I haven't gone in since I moved in, but that's all.
The staff seems friendly. They don't always get back to you very quickly though. Maintenance is fast if it's something that may cost the complex money, but if it's something less immediate, it can take a couple months to get service.
Everything else seems ok to me. My neighbors are quiet, some friendly, some not. The gym's nice, the apartments look fairly new, although appliances are not (at least not in my studio). I feel safe, there's a security guard. Transportation is convenient, and it's close to downtown. I have no problem walking from 8th St. Muni to the apartment at 1am (but feel safer walking on the SOMA side of Market). Getting packages in the mail is a pain though if you work...the pick-up hours are in the morning for a few hours before noon.
They tell you that there's a place to sit on the roof when you view the apartment, but when I asked the security guard how to get up there he said access is denied since 9/11.
There are numerous events at Civic Center, which may keep you up some nights. You can't hear concerts from the Auditorium.
That's about it. I'll stay for a while, unless something seriously wrong happens. It's nice enough.
