Amazing View....That's All

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

I lived in this building for a year in one of the studios on the 25th floor. The incredible view was the selling point. Otherwise I wouldn't ever have considered paying $1600/month for a tiny studio! I was in one of the recently renovated units with the wood flooring and the washer/dryer combo. Despite the upgrades, the age of the building is still obvious due to the clustered cottage cheese ceiling.

The good:

-The views are amazing! It was unbelievable to go to sleep every night and wake up every morning seeing the downtown skyline.
-Location is on Market Street, which provides easy access to anywhere in the city.
-The leasing agent who helped me move in was fantastic! She was friendly, smily and always did whatever she could to help me. Unfortunately, she ended up leaving not long after I moved in. The other people who work there aren't very nice.

The bad:

-Vagrants are all over the area. I never felt safe. And it was embarrassing to have friends over and forcing them to contend with the homeless everywhere. Especially unpleasant was all the urine and feces that one can smell (and see!!!!) on the sidewalks below. Really disgusting.
-Sirens all day and night. But this is in the middle of an urban area, so this is not a complaint directed toward the apartment complex. I knew about the screaming sirens when I moved in....just didn't think it would be as constant as it is.
-The washer/dryer combo was always breaking. It is located in the kitchen and eventually my sink clogged and overflowed from lint that had backed-up from the washer.
-I had a baby roach in my unit.
-The wood flooring they put in makes the entire building so noisy. The lady next door to me would walk in heels back and forth on her floor, shaking my apartment. And everytime she'd move any of the chairs, the sound was unbearable.
-There are a lot of crazies who live in the building who will talk gibberish to you in the elevator.
-Very transient place. Neighbors on both sides of me got evicted due to failure to pay rent. And they moved out in the middle of the night creating a lot of racket. This is not a close-knit, friendly community. It is a constant battle between the new, young tenants (who tend to be aloof and party a lot) and the old geezers who have lived in the building for 30 years and are exremely bitter.
-Parking is a disaster. They charge $185/month for a non-reserved spot. Keep in the mind that the first 12 floors of the building are offices. Parking is impossible between 9 and 5.
