Reasons to live at Avalon @ Yerba Buena:
1) Convenient access to the Bay Bridge. I work in the East Bay and living here gets me there relatively quick.
2) Good size units and fairly recent construction (about 6 years old).
3) Nice to have quick access to Whole Foods (although it does get expensive).
Reasons to Avoid Avalon @ Yerba Buena:
1) I've lived here for 5 months and there have been approximately 8 separate instances the fire alarm has gone off (all false alarms). Half of these false alarms have been between the hours of 12:00AM and 6:00AM.
2) If you have a high definition television you cannot get a high definition broadcast. Your only choice for cable/satellite is Direct TV. The building was wired for Direct TV, but the wiring does not have the capacity to transmit a high def broadcast. You cannot get cable - bulding is not wired for it period, non negotiable. The only other way to get high def is to get your own satellite directly from Direct TV (Avalon charges you an additional $250 security deposit for this). However, I live on the north side of the building and when Direct TV came to install the dish they said there was no way I would get a signal.
3) Minor complaint, but none of the windows or sliding doors in my apartment (and from what I can tell, everyone elses) have screens. Every time I open a window for ventilation (there is no a/c, and it is generally not needed) numerous flies and other insects fly into the apartment.
