I?ve read some of the comments here and want to set the record straight since I?m a native New Yorker transplanted in San Francisco. Bayside Village has been my home since I moved to the Bay Area and because I almost listened to the advice of other people, I?m glad I was born and raised in the Big Apple. First of all, it?s expensive BUT you get what you pay for. Frankly, I?d much rather pay $1700 in San Francisco than pay $850 in Oakland and have to deal with BART everyday (which means I?d need a car, insurance, BART fares for the month run relatively high, gasoline, etc...add it all up and you?ll get the picture). Even after the dotcom crash, they gave me a new lease at a negotiated rent to save me a few bucks and keep me as a tenant. NO ONE IS THAT HUMANE unless it's a private landlord. Bayside Village is kinda like NY in that you live nicely in a mini-community (think Battery Park City, without the view of New Jersey) but its not corrupt and they have gorgeous flowers on the grounds. The staff in the management office are friendly and maybe they?re not the smartest, but hey, who said Einstein had to work in Property Management. The onsite gym, market and pools make it convenient and talk about close to transportation' The mini-shuttle that picks you up in the financial district at night and takes you to Market Street in the mornings, FOR FREE, help make your commute much more tolerable for a city that doesn?t have enough street parking (and they do have underground parking). Reality' They do have pests but no where near some places in NY, even on Sutton Place, that I?ve seen (56th and Sutton has more rats than bayside...and they aren?t rats..they?re mice...believe me when you?ve seen a NYC river rat the size of a kitten you know the difference). Some of the benefits... underground parking that's competitvely priced for the Bay Area (the whole city has hardly any parking), well lit and very appealing at night view of the Bay Bridge (kinda like Brooklyn Heights); never been robbed because it is well lit..I've seen people jogging at 11pm...fresh produce at the market, BBQ grills off the pool and you meet cool, international-types, receive pkgs at property mgmt (way convenient), lots of singles...they really need a newsletter for that...on-site MOVIE theater (current releases on DVD and video), Yoga, Pilates...all kind of classes...chances to meet and chat with your neighbors and neighbors are usually friendly even if they're phony, Delancey Street restaurant, the new temp home for Slanted Door Vietnamese and now near PacBell Park make this paradise in the Bay Area to me. Need I say more' Feel free to email me if you have a question about this site.
