I lived here four years, through two management companies and five or six managers. Octavio, the current one, is pretty friendly and was very flexible with my move out. I got my entire deposit back, plus interest.
The complaints about noise are for real. Since the downfall of the .com empire, the complex has had to work harder to keep its occupancy rate up. Sometimes it really felt (sounded) like a college dorm.
If you can afford to live here, you can afford to buy a place, unless you have credit problems. In that case, try getting a short lease, using ear plugs, buying a white noise generator or asking noisy neighbors to turn themselves down.
You may want to avoid apartments that face Bluxome Street. There will be construction noise during the day there for almost a year. Units that face the courtyard could also be noisy because folks go up and down the stairs drunk after clubs close.
That leaves the ones facing 6th Street, which have off-ramp traffic all the time. The quietest lofts probably face East, toward the Bay Bridge.
I still recommend, as all the other features are pretty good, such as free hot water, free high-speed Internet access, $100 garage parking, good maintenance, available satellite TV, cat 5 cabling and proximity to Pac Bell Park (if you like baseball).
