Moved In & Quickly Moved On

When I moved in, I was new to the area and suffering sticker shock at the cost of SF rent. My roommate and I occupied a penthouse unit with 2 master suites. The layout was appealing (own bathrooms) and the unit was in decent shape but that is where it ended. The secure garage is NOT secure. Parts were stolen from my motorcycle and my car was vandalized twice (driver window and passenger side keyed). The elevator and common areas were frequently soiled -- urine was a common smell. I did see needles in the garage stairwell on several occasions. There are Section 8 units on the lower floors and while I am in no way critical of low-income housing, it was a focal for noise and domestic disturbances. The staff are very difficult to deal with -- service is not a priority and half of my damage deposit was held back for fictitious repairs. I admit I was not familiar with the neighborhood when I moved in but I quickly learned. I heard gunfire several times per month and a man was shot in the head at the McDonalds about a block and a half away. At this point, I made a decision to move on. Do I recommend this building after living there' Absolutely not. Take it for what it is...my experience.

C !!!! OK, you've moved out but obviously have not moved on !! A simple question: what would posses you to seek out this site to post a review when you havn't lived here for over 2 1/2 years? And why is your experience in '04 and '05 relevant today, given that the Fillmore Center has changed ownership and management since your tenure, not to mention about 80% of the staff in engineering, resident services and leasing. In addition, the parking management company here during that time has been gone for 2 years. Security patrol contractor has changed as well. The current ownership has invested substantial sums in improvements here. Perhaps that's why there is a waiting list for apartments. The neighborhood has been on the rise over the past 2 years with the addition of several restaurants, Starbucks, a new Condo development on the corner which will include the new Yoshi's Jazz Club. Robert Redford's company purchased the Kabuki Theater building and is spending millions on that project. The McDonalds down Fillmore is, unfortunately from my perspective, still there and a gathering spot for locals. As to Section 8 renters, this is San Francisco after all. The nations most liberal city. So you can candy coat your bigotry any way that makes you comfy but the fact is, if you don't want to live where "they" live, you'll have to go to Orinda or Moraga. With all the positives in the neighborhood and the changes made by management (I've been a renter for over 5 years) perhaps you moved too soon. Feel free to stop in and take a look around, unles you're just posting a reveiw as a shill for someone else. Penthouse Bob

I really don't know why these people come up with these comments! I have been living at the Fillmore Center for over one ear now, and don't have ANY complaints about the building or the service or anything. Elevators that stink urine?? I don't know in which building this guy lived but it was certainly not mine. They have cleaning service in the common areas every week and recently changed the carpet. I have the Club One inside of the building and free shuttle service to the Financial District instead of having to ride the stinky munis that DO smell like urine!! I never had any problems with my apartment or building or garage, and feel completely safe leaving my car parked the entire week in the garage without checking it. I absolutely love The Fillmore Center for many reasons, including the location. That's why I recently renewed my lease and always recommend the place to many of my friends that live in Pac Heights, Marina or Russian Hill and only pay compliments to the complex. I would think the complex must not be that bad considering that until not long ago they had full occupancy...

The great thing about a site like this is that everyone can post their opinions, experiences and feedback so accept it. Reasonable people will draw their own conclusions. 'Penthouse Bob', you've posted so many responses refuting similar experiences by former tenants that your motivations and identity are totally transparent. I posted this feedback because I've been receiving notification of new reviews ever since I moved out. I read all the bluster and remembered the bitterness (yes, bitterness) I felt after all of the negative experiences I had at the Filmore Center. I am motivated to share this so someone else doesn't have to go through what I did, especially with all of the noise created by aliases like 'Punthouse Bob'.

Penthouse Bob, you rule! We need to get together and drink some of the good stuff next time I'm in town. I have a few old cabs I've been dying to open. Glad to see you're still spending your summers in SF at TFC. It's only 95 deg in Phoenix today, not too bad! Tell Mrs. G. that I miss all the yummy baked goods you all used to share with us. Best, Jason K

Well I agree with most of you comments but...Just to let you know section 8 People can live anywhere in the build. As a person with Section 8 I lived on the 12th floor of tower 2. I hated it. Once I was 2 months from my lease being up (do they still make you sign the 2 months notice paper telling you that it is so you can leave at anytime even before you lease is up as long as you give 2 months notice. Well it you can't break your lease but you still have to give them 2 months notice.) Well this Section 8 person could not wait to get out of there even if I was living on the 12th floor it was still hell!
