ANON !!!! The above response poses a good question. The only logical answer is that------------ was your rental agent. You must have stepped through that Twighlight Zone portal instead of the Leasing Office door.
Short of that, I must point out that the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as a very large number of City, State and Federal Housing Laws, clearly prevent a Landlord from taking advantage of, among other persons, a BLIND or Mentally Disadled applicant. I can only assume you fall into one of those 'protected classes' as the legal eagles like to refer to them.
Of course, there are other possibilities. Possesion for personal use of 1 OZ or less of marijuana is basically permitted in San Francisco. In fact, it seems to be a prerequisite for viewing apartments in this neighborhood. So when you are ready to go looking for your new digs, step away from the bong a few days in advance. Oh !!! My apologies for the brain scramble with "prerequisite".
LOOK!! UP AHEAD!! A ROAD SIGN .........
