Not a bad place to live

I've lived at FCA for the last 8 months. It's really not bad. Rent's a little high ($2410 for a 2/2), since a lot of the comparable apartments they have on the market now are going for about $2k. I live in the T3 building (1420 Turk) and my building is really quiet. It's right across the street from the SFPD station too. Apt faces the courtyard so I never hear anything from the street. Courtyard is really pretty; the FCA people keep their grounds looking nice, even if the entire neighborhood isn't much to look at.
Parking is REALLY expensive ($230) but is also super safe. I never worry about my car here.
Maintenance is pretty quick to respond to any requests. We haven't had a lot of issues, just the closet doors coming off their tracks. I hear this happens to everyone all the time and is a total pain in the ass, but they're fast to fix it (time and time again), so whatever.
Despite this area being kind of ghetto, I haven't felt unsafe here as a single female. The new Safeway is great, Yoshi's is awesome, and the Fillmore is only a few blocks away. I walk down there by myself for shows occasionally, at night, and have never had a problem.
UPDATE 9/2009: It has been 6 1/2 months since I moved out of the Fillmore Center, and I have STILL not received money they owe me. It's only a couple hundred bucks, but I call every other week (sometimes every week) and it's insane to me that, after nickel-and-diming me and my roommate for 7 months, they have not managed to pay back the leftover rent. So unprofessional, they never respond to any emails. I would not consider living here, knowing the headache it will give you in the long run.

That's great that you like it there. I lived there for 3 years and liked it ok until they continually raised by rent by 8,9% EVERY YEAR I RENEWed. Now going into it i knew it wasn't a rent controlled building, but come on! Wages in SF do no go up at that rate. Have you had a review lately? Was your raise by 10%???? Hardly likely. So they hope people will just pay up or move out. People's wages do NOT increase by that much to match the yearly rent increase.
with regards to your review of parking. Yes they charge and arm and I leg. I paid a high price to think my car would be save in their gated garage. It GOT BROKEN INTO, GLASS SMASHED the day after I moved it in there. They took NO RESPONSIBILITY, and when I asked for the tapes to be reviewed, I got no reply or response to my request. $240 blown away for what? So you can park your car in a garage that is just as unsafe as the streets of Fillmo? I DON'T THINK SO!

Tricky
Here's the perfect solution .... move to Bakersfield. Wages have remained constant while housing costs have plummeted. No Yoshi's but lots of Buck Owens. Plenty of parking, what with all the empty houses. Why park in your drive and leak oil when you can stain the neighbors pavement without consequence. Oh!!!! Next time. don't leave the 6 pack of Schlitz on the front seat. TFC garage, Bakersfield driveway, Church parking lot .... doesn't matter. Someone will want it more than you.

I wrote the above review. I've since moved out (for reasons not having anything to do with the apartment, just had to relocate), but my old apartment still hasn't re-rented. They change the rent prices for available apartments EVERY DAY. No joke. I call every day and it's a different price. It's gone from 2200 to 2565 to 1995. Not sure how they expect to get apartments rented doing business like that... Still wasn't a bad apartment though.

"Anonymous", my advise would be for you to go in person to the Leasing Office and speak to the property manager (if I am correct his name is Peter). This was the only way I could get things done over there. Forget about them returning your phone calls, and even worse, responding to your emails, unfortunately you shouldn't expect this type of courtesy from them. The accountant there is absolutely incompetent too.
