I booked this apartment as a temp. place to stay while getting settled back in San Francisco -- and I was perfectly happy with it.

The neighbourhood is fine -- it is at the border of the Tenderloin -- so it all depends which way you walk. If you go north or east, it is fine (Union Square) -- if you go south or west, it is a bit like skid row, but not particularly dangerous.

My apartment was very bright and sunny -- with lots of windows. The bad side of that is that it is noisy -- it is a busy corner, lots of traffic and lots of loud people(particularly one homeless guy). It is the city -- get over it.

The only other negative is the hallway carpets -- they need to be changed, but the apartment itself was clean (and, yes, the elevator is a bit rickety, but I take the steps, so don't care).

As for "shady landlords" -- I have not found that to be true. The realtor is very sweet -- and the building manager seems nice (and the other tenants seem normal).

You are basically paying $50 a day for this place -- just try to get a hotel room for that price.
