Before you read this I need you to understand where I am coming from. I enjoy a quiet, private apartment where people are friendly and you get to know your neighbors. I like my apartment to feel like a home. I work crazy hours downtown so when I get home at night or am having friends over, I like to be living in a place where I can relax. Now I know there are people out there who dont mind living in this block...they obviously have different priorities so kudos to them and good luck with that.
The reasons why you should not stay in Northpoint Apartments:
1. The Bus Depot across the street which means traffic in this area all through the night. I am not joking it is continual and those Muni drivers show no mercy when accelerating away for their assigned bus routes 2. A Fire House on Stockton where firemen have nothing better to do than drive down Bay Street with the siren on at 03h00 in the morning. Off course some of the time it is required however most of the time I think they do it to kill time. 3. Tour buses use Stockton, Northpoint and Bay Street as a rat run to get to the wharf which results in constant noise and pollution. 4. There is constant tourist traffic in this area. Don't get me wrong it is great to have tourists in a city, however it is not a good idea to live anywhere near the places they frequent. They are generally noisy, inconsiderate to locals living in the area and congest the area. They all set their map quest coordinates for the wharf which results in them coming straight past Northpoint apartments. (Sunday night is the worst for some strange reason) 5. The Harley Davidson Bikes that come down Bay Street at all times during the week and w.end (The hot summer months are the busiest as this brings additional traffic both from pedestrians and motor vehicles.) The noise of the motor bikes reverberate through the building and you cannot hear yourself think. I really believe these bikes should be restricted to the Embarcadero. 6. The garbage trucks collect trash on Monday, Wed and Fri at 06h30 in the morning and will be sure to wake you up. (Garbage trucks are a necessary evil throughout the city, however due to the large amount of trash generated from the apartment block, the trucks tend to spend quite a bit of time outside the premises. This noise coupled with the thin walls and badly insulated windows in the apartment results in an unwanted wake up call) 7. The design of the building is such that your neighbor looks directly into your apartment so you have zero privacy. (Take a look when you are there you will notice that all the curtains are drawn all the time!) 8. I stay on the inside rim of the building and it is still noisy. I cannot even begin to imagine how noisy it must be on the outer rim. 9. People do not greet you in the hallways. If you say hello to them they stare at you as you a raving lunatic who needs to be committed to an asylum as soon as possible. (I feel this reaction may have something to do with the Garbage trucks wake up call but I have still not managed to find the link between the two) 10. I have been scanning Craigs list on a regular basis for the last 2 months and there is quite a bit of rentals property around for about the same price but which are in better areas. (It sounds like I am doing a post mortem on by decision to sign a lease here, but I needed to know once I got a bit more acquainted with the city)
I am not trying to be vindictive here, I just wish someone had told me all this before I moved into this block (I was locked into a 12 month lease so I am making the most it, however I feel better knowing that I am sending this out to some unsuspecting soul who is might read this).
I get parole from this place in December and I will definitely be leaving.

Thanks for the info, this has actually helped in my decision. I currently live on the pennisula which is very quiet but am thinking of moving into the city. I believe everything to be probably true. Thanks for the warning.

You should also list the good things about Northpoint. Like 15 min to downtown, a grocery store a block away. secure parking. very clean and if you take the time to meet your neighbors, youll find some good ones also

Thank you for your detailed review. It definitely widened my perspective of this apartment building. Despite the obvious positive attributes of Northpoint that readers get online or by telephone, there also are these obvious drawbacks (e.g., bus/noise pollution) that you presented. I don't mind the negative review as long as it paints a broader image. Thanks again.
