This apt. has a great mix of temporary young travellers and students from around the world and some locals with regular jobs. If you are new to the city and want to meet people (--- or straight) that are also new to the city this is a great place to make friends, and although there are many Asians that do not seem to speak much English they probably don?t occupy more than about 20-25% of the place. This place has a great travellers? atmosphere and vibrancy due to its mix of residents, there are also some cool locals including a sweet 80+ year old lady. Very little LA attitude in this building. If you like people that are diverse, friendly and laid back this is the place for you. The units themselves are small but that?s SF it seems, and the parking spaces are smaller, also typical for the city and take getting used to if you are new to the city and have a car that you don't want dinged. The units are quite solid and you don?t hear your neighbors much. Mark(manager) and his staff are very down to earth and great to deal with. I think there is a management policy in place that discriminates against the hiring of schmucks so common in rental offices. There?s a basic gym and suana, fine unless you are a workout pro and need free weights, high end machines, etc. The location is great, some locals think it?s in lower nob hill or some the theather district. Some may call it the tenderloin, but it?s a couple blocks away from there, which make all the difference. In any case, the tenderloin is probably a moving target going up and down Jones as rents change and gentrification is active or passive. As of 2002 when I was there, Jones from Leavenworth down to Market is somewhat cracked out, but Geary and definitely Post are fine. I would live here again if I returned to SF.
