As a tentant in this building since 1988, I can say that this is probably one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco, with great shops & restaurants and within walking distance to two lovely parks (Alta Plaza & Lafayette parks), the Marina, Japantown and beautiful Pacific Heights homes. Public transportation is good (close to the 1 California line & 22 Fillmore lines as well as an express bus to the Financial District) - plus there are taxi's driving by all the time. The only caveat I would have is that it is a very busy (and therefore noisy) neighborhood, with very limited parking space, so peace & quiet is a scarce commodity here. There is no laundry in the building, but fortunately there is a nice laundromat across the street.
It is a large building with about 50 units, so you probably won't get to know your neighbours that well, and the tentant turnover is fairly high. Still, it's a prime location and few neighborhoods can match it!
