It used to be a nice place to live...

before management changed.

Not that the people in the office now aren't nice decent people. It just seems like ever since the owners changed management things have continued to go downhill.

Of course now occupancy is extremely low - now that any standards as to who they rent to have disappeared.

The number of thugs, druggies, and those appearing to be run down - drugged out prostitutes seems to have increased.

Half the time you go through the halls it smells like someone ran over a skunk from the wanna be thugs smoking through the halls.

Security/door men are nice guys, but seem to have given up as well. They used to stop people waiting outside who tried to follow behind you when you unlocked the door. Now they hardly say a word.

Storage lockers used to be free of charge. I know that was unusual, but that was the way it was.

Now as of 7/4/06 the owner of the building who also owns the nearby storage business - SOMA Storage, has kicked everyone out of their lockers. So they forced everyone out of their lockers, but kindly offered them a 1 or 2 month discount at their storage business.

Management says they're "renovating" the storage rooms, and converting one of them into a bicycle storage room.

They have said that after the renovation the new lockers will be available for a fee. But they have no idea how much that fee will be, or if the new lockers will be the same size as or smaller than the old lockers, or even when the new lockers will be available.

They also have no process in place as to who will get the new lockers. Just kind of a "oh well...1st come 1st served" attitude.

I asked if residents who had lockers would be given 1st chance to rent the new lockers, but management really didn't have a clue.

Still haven't heard anything or seen any additional notices as to when the new lockers will be available. Meanwhile I've got boxes stacked up in the middle of my one room studio waiting to see what the deal is going to be.

Will I be better off renting the locker here' Will I even be able to get a locker here' Would I be better off renting a space from the owners storage business a few blocks away' Nobody seems to know, or if they do, they're not telling!

On another note, the property does not allow pets...except for "service" animals. So why does it seem like a kennel around here'

After multiple complaints (from multiple residents - I was told) they put a notice on everyone's door that no DOGs were allows unless they were 'service' dogs. And specifically informed residents with service dogs that they were not to take their dogs into the courtyard to do their business.

Didn't mean a thing...one guy with two dogs still takes his dogs into the courtyard several times a day/night. Nice dogs, not loud, but unfortunately, when every other little dog that's in an apartment facing the courtyard sees them, they all start barking.

Managment knows who this guy is, but he's still out there...everyday.

Used to be a nice place to live when it was only 1/2 to 3/4 occupied...when the old management actually knew their tenants... when you didn't have dogs barking outside of your window at all hours...when you didn't have to watch out for thug wanna be's in the halls.

Plus, the neighborhood sucks! I know that's not Managements fault. But I'm a big guy and I don't like to walk around the block in the neighborhood after dark.

I pulled up the Police Departments Crimes map at http://www.sfgov.org/site/police_index.asp'id=23813
and found that the crime map looks pretty much the same anywhere within the city. But the area at 6th and Mission seems a bit more overtly criminal than some other areas in the city.

When you can walk down the block, and the thugs are joking about their drugs and other stuff while laughing at the cops at the corner, you get the feeling that the police presence is doing nothing to deter the criminal element on the block.

The units themselves are not bad.

If you decide to move here, just do so with eyes wide open. Expect the bad element in the neighborhood. Be on guard/alert of your surroundings whether in the neighborhood or in the hallways/garage of the building itself. If you get a unit on the courtyard, expect to hear your neighbors talking loudly on their cell phones at 3am right outside your open window (sounds like they're in the room with you) Expect to hear the dogs barking at each other in the courtyard, even though there are no dogs allowed unless they're service dogs, and there are absolutely NO dogs allowed in the courtyard at all (but they will still be there.)

GOOD LUCK!

This is a ridiculously negative review. I've lived here for a year and a half, and I can say with confidence that this is still a great building.

I've had a few complaints, but they're addressed as soon as I mention them to management. If someone is talking on their cell phone at 3am right outside your window, file a complaint, for cryin' out loud!

Thank god, I heard the truth before committing based on their false marketing. So any recommendations for a decent 1BR luxury apartment in Mi.Bay/SoBe area?
