The complex is unsafe, they allow the place to be rented out as a hotel. Don't believe me' Just do a google search on archstone smith hotel san francisco.
today the power went out and although that's not the management's fault, there was absolutely NO lighting in the hallways or stairwells. Imagine the horror of trying to exit from the 9th floor in a fire or earthquake, especially if you have young children or are elderly.
in addition, the parking garage is regularly the scene of car break ins. The garage door was broken for nearly a month.
Management is lacking in courtesy and responsiveness. Repairs take months to do and nearly all must be escalated to get a response. when I complained about the lack in lighting in the stairwells, I was told to "move if you don't like it."
On top of that the complex tried to ILLEGALLY raise my rent more than 30% without the required 60 days' notice. If I hadn't complained, who knows what would have happened.
On the whole, this is an untrustworthy company, taking risks with people's lives to make a buck. They are incompetent at best, liars and thieves at their worst. No wonder they sold to Tishman, the lawsuits are legendary. Just do a search. $600k settlement in Santa Clara county for misbilling water bills.
Save your time and money....skip the pile of dog feces that is Archstone South of Market, unless you like sharing your apartment with smokers, filthy pet owners, and unsafe and unrepaired living conditions.
