You can do a LOT BETTER than this

this building is one of those anomolies, it seemed like a good idea at the time but over time it has shown to be a mistake. The concrete walls between most of the apartments are nice, they help miminize noise from the next door neighbors, but you CAN'T HANG ANYTHING ON THEM -- and the inner walls of the apartments are made of a very flimsy wallboard that screws pull right out of, and often don't fully meet at the floor. The building is undergoing a "renovation" since it was bought by CitiApartments (part of Skyline Slumlords - er - Realty) but the work is sloooooooooooow going, the work crews are constantly hammering and painting and repainting what got damaged because they painted it too soon -- the water gets shut off anytime they install new fixtures in the apartments (the water to the WHOLE BUILDING is shut off, and frequently to the point of madness). There is a lot of construction noise, smells, fumes, dust, trash, etc. They tape over areas, paint, then leave the tape where it is. they do the same with the elevator lobby windows and doors, they cover them over with plastic, paper, blue tape, do some painting, then just leave it. There are exposed cables all over the place, the smoke detectors have been covered in tape and plastic for MONTHS; bare bulbs are on 24 hrs a day and running right behind them are exposed cables, plastic, tape etc.
The neighborhood is still not too great, you can hear arguments, shouts, yells, singing, party animals, prostitutes etc outside your window -- and like another reviewer on here, my apartment is like 8 stories up from street level, yet you can hear them as if they were in the next room.
The studio apartments when I moved in were fairly reasonable, a little high rent but not unmanageable. However, seeing the new "renovated" apartments at the jacked up price of $1295 (please.....) are not worth it. They've removed some of the storage and living space of the studio to replace it with wine racks and built in tables from the kitchen to the main room. Added to this are the baseboard heaters that stick out 6 inches and run along two of your four usable walls, it limits where you can place your furniture and what you can do with the room.
They are touting it as a secure building, which it is not. There is a lock on the front door but anyone can follow anyone into the building or pretend to be calling in on the building phone and wait til someone leaves, and just walk right on in. Each floor does have it's own locked door off the elevator lobby, but the construction guys leave these doors propped open half the time, and the keys seem to work on more than one floor, rather than limited to one floor alone.
There is a laundry room which is a nice feature, but when the water to the building is turned off you can't use them, and if they happen to be in use when the water is turned off then the machines freeze up and won't work even when the water is turned back on, you have to call the repairmen to come out and that can take a day or two sometimes. Also there are a lot of mysterious puddles of water in the laundry room, sometimes so bad you can't walk in the door without stepping in a LARGE puddle of water.
The building manager is a nice enough guy, but he will not take deliverys or sign for packages; his role seems to be to call CitiApartments/Skyline when repairs need to be made and wait to get a work order or some nonsense like that.
There is parking in the building but it is an extra charge, the parking is shared with Rite Aid on the first level; and it is not secure. Anyone can walk in off the street, and cars have been broken into while parked there.
The one good thing about the building is it is a fairly convenient location. That's about it.
You can find a lot better elsewhere for the money they are asking and the "service" they provide.
