Not the Best Choice

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001

When we moved into Trinity Plaza it was at the height of the dot-com and there were no other apartments available in the entire city. The only other way I can explain it is that being from out of state we didn't know any better!

The apartments are very small, think of a hotel room and that is exactly what you get here for $900 a month (in 2000.) In fact the building was originally built as a hotel. If you like to cook forget about because the fridge is barely big enough to hold leftovers and the sink isn't big enough to wash your dishes. They do have a full size bathroom and a decent closet though.

The entire place needs some serious updating particularly the common areas like the lobby and the fitness center where all the equipment is old and abused. Also watch out because laundry is often stolen out of the common laundry rooms. The place also has a reeking garbage smell from the dumpster and there are rats that run outside around the pool.

There is a balcony on some apartments, which you will never use because it is so unpleasant and depressing to look out on the neighborhood. All you see is concrete, pigeons and homeless people. This area is also crime central. We witnessed shootings and stabbings right outside on 8th and Market. Also despite paying an additional $150 for parking every month our car was broken into 3 times in the course of 1 year. There is plenty of public transportation in the area with BART, buses and the streetcar so if possible I would avoid owning a car in this neighborhood.

I also think that the security deposit on the apartment was outrageous, at around $2000. If at all possible look elsewhere before signing the lease because Trinity plaza is definitely not the best choice.
